Vera Farmiga will play Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Christine McVie in The Drummer, a biopic of The Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson that has Aaron Eckhart set for the leading role.
Directed by Bottle Shock helmer Randy Miller, the film will chronicle the last six years of Wilson’s life which coincided with him creating some of the best music of his whole career. Wilson died in 1983 at the age of just 39 in Marina Del Rey after diving into the sea whilst drunk, just a few years after his solo release Pacific Ocean Blue which has become posthumously celebrated.
Wilson and McVie dated between 1979 and 1981 and the song ‘Hold Me’ from a previous album Mirages was inspired by their tumultuous relationship.
Eckhart is currently learning to play the drums and the piano as well as training his voice so he can sing in the movie. Farmiga is actually a classically training pianist so its unlikely she will need any of the same though we do know there will be some duets song between the actors in the movie.
Variety says The Drummer will begin shooting on June 15th once Eckhart is done with I, Frankenstein.
