War For The Planet Of The Apes Review

Worth going ape over?

War for the Planet of the Apes has swung into theatres to bring us one more helping of simian prequel goodness, and fans of the series are unlikely to be disappointed.

Matt Reeves is back in the director's seat for the third entry in the series, which follows on from the events of the exceptional Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and finds Caesar leading his apes of wrath into a deadly conflict with an army of humans.

Andy Serkis returns to the role of Caesar the ape, and this time he's waging personal gorilla warfare against Woody Harrelson's unhinged Colonel and his troops while battling his darker instincts and thirst for vengeance. Fifty shades darker, or what?

War had lofty standards to maintain and the good news is that it lives up to its apetastic predecessors, for the most part. While falling marginally short of Dawn's subtle excellence, this is a blockbuster sequel with brains and heart, as well as bang.

As always, we had plenty to say about the movie, so we made the video below to reflect on its many strengths and relatively few weaknesses. Hit play for our in-depth review of War for the Planet of the Apes.
