Wesley Snipes Wants Blade To Enter Marvel Cinematic Universe

Super soldiers, demi gods, blind lawyers, and now maybe even vampires?

Long before the superhero genre could share a universe, or even achieve widespread mainstream success, there was Blade. Despite being one of the first comic book properties to achieve success on the big screen, the character has remained on ice for over a decade. According to Wesley Snipes, the half-vampire, half-man anti-hero could have life once again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the actor is eager to sink his fangs into the role. In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, the action star explained that he has had positive meetings with Marvel, and his eventual inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains a distinct possibility:
"There's always a possibility, you know. It's in Marvel's hands. They're controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it... I'm still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We'll see how it goes. I don't really know what's going to happen to it yet."
While bringing Blade back to the silver screen depends on far more than Snipes' ability to knock out some crunches, his words inspire confidence. Introducing Blade to the MCU could open up brand new avenues for storytelling. While the universe began in a relatively grounded place with Iron Man, more and more fantastical concepts have slowly seeped in, such as the existence of aliens, inter-dimensional travel, and even the subatomic universe from Ant-Man's recent outing. Blade's introduction could see the addition of vampires and other dark supernatural elements to the universe at large, adding further complexity to the world these characters inhabit. Aside from story elements, introducing Blade could draw a more mature audience to the MCU. The Blade franchise literally has a blood drenched style that could take the universe in a darker, more violence direction -- a trend already started by Netflix's Daredevil. It would also provide some excellent fan service to the longtime members of Blade's cult following. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Snipes' words inspire hope that we may one day see his infamous leather-clad vampire hunter alongside Tony Stark and Star Lord on the big screen.
