As it’s a slow news day this Friday and as there has been almost nothing new to report on The Dark Knight Rises for the past several weeks, we thought we would revive an old interesting debate (and you have to say problem for Warner Bros this summer) when Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale leave the Batman franchise for good.
We will talk about the intimidating shoes of Christopher Nolan that some filmmaker out there has to try and fill when the Batman franchise is inevitably rebooted or re-imagined next time out on a later date… but which actor out there do you think is the perfect match for the next Bruce Wayne?
Read What Culture writer Trevor Gentry-Birnbaum’s article from late last year and debate below;
After The Dark Knight Rises is unleashed on our screens next July, Christopher Nolan will step down as director and Christian Bale will be giving up the cowl and at least for the time being (probably forever… but you can never say never for sure) they are done with the Batman franchise.
Knowing they won’t be tempted to make a fourth film anytime soon, Warner Bros. has expressed interest in rebooting the franchise with a series of films they hope they can convince Nolan to produce, but we have to wonder why all of these reboots are so necessary? Spider-Man, X-Men… we are looking at you!
James Bond has been played by multiple actors over the years, each one continuing the story in a sort of flexible continuity which could be improved upon by simply doing it in The Bourne Legacy fashion. Cast a new actor (though keep the character Bruce Wayne in this case) and wherever Nolan leaves Wayne at the end of The Dark Knight Rises, pick-up from there. There’s plenty of villains in the Batman canon to cause a threat to Gotham and plenty of characters they have used already (and not killed off) that could return for sequels. Just because there’s a new creative team and cast doesn’t mean that everything that’s come before needs to be thrown out. Nolan has said that he intends to bring Bruce Wayne’s story to a close in this last installment, so perhaps there won’t be anything left to continue… but we would be surprised if he gave our Caped Crusader such a definite ending.
However, whether the next Batman film is a hard reboot or a softer relaunch, one thing is for certain: there will be another Batman movie sooner than later. There’s no way Warner Bros. will want the lucrative Bat-franchise collecting dust for too long. When they do start working on the next movie, two of the most important questions will be: who will be directing (we will cover that later) and who is playing the new Batman?
The more dependable and recognizable action movie stars are all either balding or dead and while there are some younger, up and coming action heroes, they don’t have a substantial track record of hit movies. They might choose to go with an unknown, but if they decide to dip into the well of Hollywood, here are some of the names we think would fit if they decide to carry on Nolan’s story…
Michael Fassbender
Pros: In the last two years, Michael Fassbender has thrusted himself into the mainstream with his British Nazi spy in Inglourious Basterds and his tortured turn as Magneto X-Men: First Class, showcasing his considerable acting talent that we all knew was present from his earlier, lesser seen works of Eden Lake and Hunger. As Magneto particularly, we saw him go from a vengeful and angry young man to a calculating, controlled leader; he expressed darkness, but his fierce dedication related to a childhood trauma. Sound familiar?
He is a credible leading man and has the inner depth and darkness to portray Batman and the charm to pull off Bruce Wayne.
Cons: He may be threatening, but he’s not very tough. He definitely has the acting chops, but it might be hard to accept him pulverizing street thugs ten at a time without the aid of magnetic powers. Maybe he would have to go through a training regime just like Batman to get to the physical shape required. Plus, as we normally have a rule of one comic book character per actor, it would be tough to see him as Magneto and Batman in two ongoing franchises.

What a ridiculous article – after next summer any attempt at this franchise will pale to insignificance – and will be more histerical than joel schumachers B+R, especially if ‘Idris Elba’ is cast. I mean, how ridiculous can you be!
agreed anthony no reboots no sequels required to talk of one is criminal when nolan finish’es his trilogy it will be a masterpiece you would’nt remake the godfather or original star wars trilogies would you when nolan and bale depart leave batman alone for 5-10 years unless a JLA movie is in the making
LOL! Totally agree with you man. When I saw the pictures I started to laugh.
Right so, what? Don’t make any more Batman films after this trilogy is done? That’s the most ridiculous opinion I have ever heard.
Simon are you joking, a trilogy means 3. this will be the third Batman movie. Done. Theres a perfectly good reason to leave things alone when they are done with.
Shall we go and make a ‘Lord of the Rings 4′ while we are at it.
No Idris? Why? You racist?
Anthony. Of course they can keep making movies. There is no parallel between Batman and Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings films were (badly) based on a book, Lord of the Rings, that was published in three parts. The story was told. Perhaps one day another director will tell it correctly, but the book was finished. Batman is a comic book franchise that has run for over 70 years. There are many Batman stories still to be told.
OMG they should TOTALLY remake The Godfather! That would be soo AWESOMEE!!!
Idris Elba would be the best Batman. And WB are obviously going to continue the Batman franchise, seemings how it’s extremely successful, it’s a tentpole franchise for them, and there are plenty of Batman stories to be told
And they should remake the Godfather. Can’t be any worse than the originals
After watching Person of Interest, James Caveziel (sp?) would be a great Batman
Actually, I can see Idris Elba as Green Arrow or Hawkman.
Nolan’s trilogy is a masterpiece. A reboot is blasphemy.
If there was one however (let’s hope not), then I would definitely want to Scott Adkins as Batman.
Pale my ass. Christopher Nolan’s brother has a TV Show called “Person of Interest” that he co produced with J.J. ABRAMS. It stars Jim Caviezel (Count of Monte Cristo) and Michael Emerson (LOST).
Jim in the show is an uncanny BATMAN without a cape/gadgets. And he still manages to kick ass. Hell he even does the appear/disappear out of nowhere & ominously mysterious voice bit that the caped crusader does excellently.
Hell if Jonathan NOLAN decides to pick Jim Caviezel as a replacement Batman, there’s hope for the justice league movie yet.
That is unless hollywood decides to ruin it again by making green lantern some kind of clown. *cough*Ryanreynolds*cough*
How ’bout David Boreanaz? After 8 years of playing Angel he’s got the dark, brooding thing down pat; and, of course, stunt fighting, too. And he’s got the look, face and physique.
I agree do what they did with other batman movies wait for a long time then make another series but let’s get serious they will never top the dark knight series
A black Batman? Preposterous. You’ll be suggesting Halle Berry or Eartha Kitt for Catwoman next… or Billy Dee Williams for Two Face. TSK!
Next film needs BULLOCK.
cheaper and safer to just pay Bale 25 Million to do it again
fvck all haters Bale is the best Batman and i love his Bat-voice!!!
You don’t have to be a hater to think Bale’s raspy bat-voice is slightly ridiculous.
Bale is not Batman. I admit, he’s a good actor, but he’s not Batman. His Bat-voice is actually silly and annoying. Batman should be a smart, meat headed thug. He’s been kicked around so much he should resemble Micky Rourke. Bale is too James Bond. I’ve never seen one Batman who’s MY Batman. That said, the Alien vs. Predator vs. Batman short is the best and truest representation of The Batman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOZVp9NFhQE
Bale is by far the best Batman ever, he gets a lot of chirps for his voice but his voice is genius. If he talked the same as Bruce Wayne everyone would know. They put so much work into building that character.
None of the above
what a TERRIBLE list. I doubt that anyone would dare to make another series soon, after the legacy Chris Nolan has left
You might doubt it, but it is happening. And it wasn’t a decision made by Trevor.
Dear yoyoma,
I agree.
Signed,
Sam Raimi and the Spider Man franchise.
No More Batman movies after the Dark Knight Rises! no one will be as good as Nollan.
Warner Bros confirmed they plan to reboot the franchise. http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/03/29/justice-league-the-movie-warner-chief-sets-sights-on-team-up-film-and-reinventing-batman/?dlvrit=63378
This article isn’t about slating that decision. We all may as well accept it will happen.
Fassbender is an incredible actor. I think he could handle playing both Wayne and Batman, but I would find it weird seeing the caped crusader played by Magneto.
What a big piles of crap, better put a sign here that says
Would the sign read “What big piles of crap”? Because that makes no sense.
I can play the bat! After all, I was the Human Torch and Captain America. Who says I can’t take on 10 dudes at once? Bring it on! Let me give it to em! Take that, you! And that!
Hmm.. NO. You have already ruined the Marvel universe by being both the Human Torch AND Captain America. It’s not nice to see the same actor twice in the same universe playing 2 roles. Do something like a Metal Gear Solid movie or something.
The Fantastic Four movies aren’t set in the Marvel movie Universe canon that the other movies are. Duh! They’re like children’s films.
So you are saying Fantastic Four is not Marvel then? Of course it’s Marvel. However you are correct that it was aimed at a younger audience, but all in all, Marvel retains 2 universes, the Ultimate Universe and the 616 Universe, 616 Universe being the Marvel movies, therefore it’s the same :)
They just don’t exist in the same canon: research it and you’ll see.
About the article, Magneto as Batman?! Really? After Ryan Reynolds ruining the universe by playing Deadpool, then becoming the Green Lantern? NO! Jake Gyllenhaal is already the Prince Of Persia, becoming Batman would not be one of his strong roles. Mark Whalburg was already Max Payne, however he might take to the Batman role quite well – if it ever happens. And a black guy as Batman?! Hahahaha, that’s almost the same as making Thor a black guy, it just won’t happen and most of all it won’t be true to the comics.
Ik anyoneday, step back and take a breather. You are way to knowledgeable Bout marvel we all get that. But you don’t have to regurgitate your nerdiness here bud. Now I can sit here and poit out all the inaccuracies and stupidness when it come to these marvel movies cuz I’m just a big of a nerd as you are. But I don’t cuz I have better things to do with my time. I didn’t like that he played 2 characters either, but did u bring up the fact that now 3 actors have played the hulk? Or how about batman? There has been what 5 of them lol. Come on buddy pick your battles, or just get laid or rub one out cu you are way to serious about movies lmao
mark wahlberg is ok but not tall enough.jake gyllenhaal is fine & handsome to portay bruce wayne & batman,But i think Scott adkins,Ted dibiase(WWE)&John cena(WWE) would be much perfect & tougher choice
WHAT? you mean Ted Dibiase JR.? none of those dudes can act.
Not gonna happen that’s like saying Stallone would e a good batman lol
Why does everyone think that it either has to be a reboot or a continuation? It has been 8 years since the TDK!!! 8 YEARS! Tell the stories that were going on between the two movies… it might be weird to have Bruce/Batman played by somebody else but if it’s done well nobody will care in the end
I dont mind you as an actor chris but fan 4 îs pants and capt America aint much better, but i agree dont play to differant characters in these super hero movies, ITS poor.
ITS seems that there was peace in gotham in them 8 years, i think thats what nolan seems to be getting at but i think that could work, it could show him getting villians Off The streets and in to arkham. And i would cast Daniel Day lewis as an Evil riddler if they went down that route.
this article was a waste of my downloads
The best Batman has to be Michael Keaton. There wasn’t some sort of expectations when he played the role. It was very simple, and that was enough. I also feel Jack played a great Joker too.
Keaton was good but bale îs King. Ledger was also The best joker by a distance. But to be fair to The actors begins was a much better film than burtons batman.
@Colin, I do like Burton dark movies, but his style didn’t work on the Batman films. He works great with Depp. If you’ve older Batman shows you who see that Joker always has a sarcastic sense of humor that’s why I kind of liked Jack playing him. I didn’t see that in Ledger, but then again that’s only opinion.
Cesar Romero was the best Joker. He had the most presence and looked like he could actually kick Batman’s ass. Ledger was too small to invoke any real fear and the whole “I’ll compensate for the fact that I’m not at all tough by acting crazy” thing that Hollywood has been doing for years has gotten old. I love Nolan as a director, but Bale is a weak Bruce Wayne. I don’t believe him as either conflicted or a playboy. Both Keaton and Kilmer were much better than him. Bale is better than Clooney though. Anyway, the best depiction of Batman ever is still the Animated Series.
You people must be insane. Ledger made the Joker what the character always meant to be. Romero was funny, Nicholson was a freaking clown, but not a criminal. In a universe where there’s a Batman (the one we’ve known long from the comics and legend), Ledger’s Joker is the only possible Joker.
in TDKR, Bruce Wayne should be in late 30s, not early 40s as stated. In BB, the scene where Rachel comes to Bruce’s house to give him a birthday present, we can see clearly the number ’30′ at the birthday decoration on the background. Then, events in TDK take place six months after BB, therefore 30 years + 6 months + 8 years = 38.5 years old. Please correct me if I’m wrong here.
i think that there will be no need for a new batman, the theory is that they are making a justice league film, with nolan doing superman, already done batman, green lanterns been released, wonder woman is being made, this will lead up to Noaln doing justice league, with bale returning, trust me
if they were going to reboot the batman series they could do it with robin. robin has always been a side-kick but what if robins parents were killed instead of bruce wayne’s, what if there was no batman but just robin could robin protect and save gotham on his own being so young, they could do a series exploring that issue
His parents were killed, and they did that but in a different city. Dick graceon the original robin comes out from batmans shadow and becomes nightwing
instead of batman begins you could have robin/nightwing begins and gordon joseph levitt could play him
Ridiculous.
John Hamm and Michael Fassbender aren’t bad choices but Mark Wahlberg? Seriously? Have some respect. As much as I like Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko is a huge reason I ever got into film), he was a great choice for Spider-Man, as was mentioned, but he could never pull off The Batman.
Regarding Idris Elba, this also is NOT a bad choice. You give plenty of justification as to how he would work in this role and I agree. Now for the seemingly obvious reason he wouldn’t – Batman and Bruce Wayne aren’t black. However, this isn’t a cut and dry race issue. It’s not that the world isn’t “ready” for a black Batman, it’s that it would be insulting and condescending to ignore the significance of race in relation to how it would shape the character. I’m not saying you couldn’t have a black Batman, but you would have to completely rewrite the character to reconcile the race factor and at that point, you shouldn’t totally deconstruct and reassemble an icon, just make an awesome new charatcer that is of African descent and so it wouldn’t feel forced or unnecessary.
Of course they’re going to make more Batman movies – accept it and move on everyone. When they do, aside from the Justice League stuff, I think the stories taking place during the eight year gap between TDK and Rises are the best way to go.
Michael C. Hall would make an excellent Riddler. Seriously.
Idris Elba is a completely stupid idea with no resounding argument to back it up whatsoever.
Gotham isnt exactly overun with african americans, dont you think Batman might find it a tad difficult to conceal his identity being in the limelight as the most successful black businessman in Gotham……………..with a freaking goatee!!
ACTUALLY Idris Elba could totally work if the movie went with the Batman Inc. storyline – he could play David Zavimbe, Batman Incorporated’s representative from the Democratic Republic of Congo as featured in Batwing. So there.
I think Ryan gosling should be the next batman just with darker hair….
I’d have to vote for Michael Fassbender. I loved him as Magneto. And as for toughness, did we forget he was a Spartan in 300? He was the one who leaped into the air to to cut off the Persian’s arm.”Then we will fight in the shade,”
You lost me at Marky Mark..
I don’t think a reboot will take place for quite a few years. It’ll happen, definitely, but there’ll be a nice, solid gap.
Anyway, I don’t think any of these actors would make the cut. ESPECIALLY Mark Wahlberg. Seriously? Might as well throw Bruce WIllis in there too, then…
Yeah cuse Heimdall and Batman are almoust exactly the same…..
And the films are gonna be re-booted after TDKR so that 41-year old guy has no chance
Agreed. This article is a joke. And the choices stated are an even bigger joke. lazy writing. stupid reasoning. writers need to stick to what they know. this writer needs to go back to teen magazine. ONLY a fangirl or fanboy of Comics and The Nolan can write about Batman.
This is a horrible list, I say go with an unknown or someone who was at he same level as Christian Bale was when he started. I’m a huge batman fan, I don’t like any of your choices except for Jon Hamm and I still think he’d be a better Superman.
I wish Kevin Conroy looked like Bruce Wayne.
At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, a black dude in a black cape??? Come on…..
these are the worst suggestions EVER.
The same old names keep getting trotted out for every movie. I’m completely bored with them. Tom Welling gets my vote. Of course, he gets my vote for every lead movie role.
Don’t forget for batman The actor have to has a beautiful lip. And I guess they haven’t .
Ah these guys in this cast? Best one out of all here is marky mark. But the Best Batman Writer and Director of this franchise. Are Tim Burton-Michael Keton. Batman and Batman returns. Nolan-Christan Bale. Batman The Darknight series. Fact. Those are the best.
There are upcoming stars that could play these roles , like Arleo dordar.
they should use dominic purcell from prison break if they want to continue with the same dark story line and stay away from the old comic booky style that ruined the last 2 of the first series.
This movie is just the end of the Dark Knight Trilogy. Read the comics.
I can’t believe some of you prefer Keaton and Burton to the Dark Knight Trilogy!? Batman has always been a dark and traumitised hero, not colourful and quirky with one liners. Back in ’89 any superhero movie could have been a huge hit with the right advertising. I think all those choices are wrong, Bale proved himself in so many roles before Batman and is a SuperStar, Hamm and Fassbender have hardly done anything. Not to sound racist but it amazes me how Alba is even the slightest option! He was even considered for James Bond! Batman is white! Its like giving George Clooney a shot at Shaft or Paul Walker a go at Blade. My opinion is that they should shelve it for 5years and let a transexual Indian woman play Batman… I mean a black Batman?! Seriously????
Batman should be continued by another guy if Bale isn’t going to…like madmen guy…not to be racist but a black batman wouldnt do batman too well….its like having a chinese superman….hell no!
Why can’t the franchise be rebooted in a way that doesn’t suffer from pre-conceptions. JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek in such way that allowed us to know the characters but the paths and characters were free to be “updated” and that movie was great! They could alternatively reboot Batman in a world like that of the Batman Beyond animated series where Bruce Wayne trains an apprentice to take his place in the future when the obvious age factor kicks in. All I’m suggesting is that a black Batman is very possible and personally, I’d like a fresh take on a very overdone franchise. Why do need yet another Joker, another Bruce Wayne, another Vicky Vale … You get the drify. If they’re going to do Batman again, be open to new ideas and you might just be peasantly surprised.
America accepted a black president… But a black Batman? That’s insane, right?
lol WHY isn’t Scott Adkins on here? He looks so much like a Bruce Wayne, he can definitely hide his accent, he can act, and he’s an awesome martial artist. These were definitely some horrible picks lol.
I agree Scott Adkins is the best choice by far!
NONE The above five would fill the bill whatsoever.
You need someone with Christian Bale’s range; someone who has the voice, the physical prescence, the dark brooding soul.
For the time that they were made, Michael Keaton was fine. Val Kilmer was horrid and George Clooney was even worse.
it woudl be the same thing with the above.
One actor could make a seemless transition: Jim Cavaziel. Dark, brooding, has the voice, has the physical stature.
Watch an episode of Person of Interest and you will see.
Nolan or the director of Tron Legacy (when the son of flynn first walks out of the arcade into the grid & looks up at the cityscape) both nailed the dark cityscape needed to bring the Batman Beyond to life. Seems like a great follow-up to Nolan’s “end”. As for the actor to play future batman, well……..its obvious. Justin Beiber. That made laugh so hard I cried. I’m drawing a blank….anyone?
the opening to the pilot show of luther is enough to make idris the next batman. a hughes brothers film all the way. this batman would be a lot more personal than any of the batman films. crime fighting in all areas of gotham city-which is a cesspool for crime would remind people of the wire in terms of intensity.
a new actor a new series of comics of batman, there are so many villians we haven’t seen like freeze and others who are relativly big, also everyone would want to see the joker return.
Mark Wahlberg or Jake Gyllenhaal would be the ideal replacments if they cant keep christian bale(at any cost i would keep him as there is a 8 year cap beetween films 2 and 3 a storyline would fit in)
I’d go Guy Pearce.
Idris Elba? If the film was called Gotham City Imposters, then yeah, I can see him as one of many Batmen…
This article brings up one great point. Are all these reboots really necessary? You can continue with the franchise you’re on, granted it’s extremely tough to make a great film and future films won’t be like the previous films with most of the previous people involved with them.
I like Nolan’s films only as much as I like Burton’s. There’s still lots of stuff missing from both imaginings.Batman has been getting more limber with time, but Bale is no bruce lee. I think that is where there is room to grow with Batman…make him much more sleek and nimble… a true mixed martial artist, possibly with a somewhat bionic suit…and make the villains a bit more larger than life, with bigger stakes.
two words…Batman beyond
I think they should do “The Dark Knight Returns” with Bruce Willis.
in the dark knight rises, he is actually in his mid 30′s, not early 40′s
batman begins his character was 25-27
dark knight was set one year after the end of batman begins
dark knight rises is set after 8 years
so thats mid 30′s
Ummmm, no, upon Wayne’s final return to Gotham, he is seen celebrating his 30th birthday. TDR is set roughly a year later, per Joker’s comments made to the gathering of crime bosses, so Wayne is pushing 40, 8 years later.
Ohh come oon mann bat was taken from the piece of crap that it was with batman returns and whem an english producer came along he knew what he was doin. Nolon clearly grew up on the original batman comics and that what we see in the new batman. To even think of rebooted batman would be stupid i wouldnt whatch it just for the simple fact that the film will be goin way out of direction how can a film be reboot telling the same story that already be done perfect the only films that needed a reboot was superman and the only films that need to be made is the flash, aqua man whitch is coming soon to cinema. The marshen man and the jutice leauge movie. If wanrner brother are serious about there films why dont they leave the batman film the way they are now and carrry on makin the other films so we can get to what jutice leauge. Marvel comics had no problem puttin there version together with the avenger movie. Marvel had to make four differnt title films before they could make the avengers they had no problem only with the hulk but they came through .
One more reason why batman shouldnt be reboot cause its the first time batmans been show in this way and every think about it is newwwww and not old we never saw this in previous batmans
The only way to make coomics book heros into big budget films is let nolon produce them as he reads the comice and clearly nos what his doin dont leave it to a dumass to go and f**k it up
The Dark Knight Returns with Kurt Russel..
I say, why not let Bruce Willis take the role as old Bruce Wayne and Justin Chatwin as Terry McGinnis. We’ll do a Batman Beyond. I would love to see Batman Beyond in silver screen.
Leave batman alone for 10 years. Build up the suspense for his big screen return for JLA. Start on other movies. Think of the stories, Nolan Superman, Flash, Proper Green Lantern. Maybe a Hawkman Martian Manhunter or Green Arrow(although I am sceptical any of those 3 would translate well into theaters). Make tv shows for Aquaman or Wonder Woman. Than you can bring the universe together for one big superhero stand off. Think about it, Batman as a marketing strategy to get JLA out there is gold.
I suggest we dig up Heath Ledger by now he’s rotted and dark. even as a corpse a better batman than marky mark.
This is the most ridiculous list, a few I don’t mind but when you put Mark and Idris on list list that just tells me you shouldn’t be writing any sort of article on casting and thank god you aren’t a caster. Stick to reviewing movies.
I think Luke Evans would make a good batman. He gotta get buff for the part but he looks like he can pull Bruce and Bats off. I like the idea of Jake and if Idris was white maybe. I’m black but I do not think a black man should play batman. Luke cage or bring back Blade but not Bats. I think in the reboot should be something like Tim’s first batman. Have Bruce Wayne already as batman when the movie first starts. Don’t waste time showing his origins. They should show flash backs and some times just focus on Bruce face and we can hear the gun going off and his parents screams as he day dreams of their deaths. And this time bring in Robin just not like they did in batman forever and please nothing like Batman and Robin. Keep it dark.
Not that I agree with the idea of Idris Elba being able to play batman but what I think most haven’t recognized is that Nick Fury wasn’t black either. Nor did he look like Samuel L. until 2002 when he was redesigned. So it’s very possible a black man could be batman/Bruce Wayne but I don’t think I’d believe it unless the actor was just awesome and unquestionable in the role. I mean let’s be fair when people heard that the late Heath ledger was going to be the joker I’m sure there was some disbelief and “WTF” going on. But in the end he was so good no one questioned his casting again.
Dude, did u make this list to get hits on yr comment site?
This is the BEST Batman series ever. I don’t think they should start another Batman series for quite sometime. They should try to get this crew back together when possible. If another Batman series comes out in the meantime I don’t think it will stand to this series!!!!
What about Paul Giammatti?
It’s a bit of a poor but acceptable choices for the next Bruce Wayne/Batman…
My top choice would be:
Scott Adkins
After Nolan wraps his Dark Knight trilogy, and with considering the success of Avengers, the only logic place for another Batman film to go is into a Justice League movie. That is, if WB has any sense.
SCOTT ADKINS!!!!
And on the comment I saw about Idris Elba…. NO!!! BATMAN IS NOT BLACK, AND NO THAT ISN’T RACIST, AND I REALLY WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP THROWING THAT WORD ABOUT SO CARELESSLY!
Matt Bomer!!!! He’s PERFECT!!!
http://www.google.com.ph/imgres?hl=tl&sa=X&biw=1024&bih=677&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnslo&tbnid=6BCkrw90lyPV6M:&imgrefurl=http://simply-showbiz.com/blog/archives/tag/matt-bomer&docid=B8q47RtOlT0wVM&imgurl=http://simply-showbiz.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/bomer_article.jpg&w=330&h=220&ei=IAy1T8DGF-yhmQXA_LXfDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=102&vpy=212&dur=6318&hovh=176&hovw=264&tx=217&ty=144&sig=102058416341386827705&page=2&tbnh=149&tbnw=187&start=17&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:17,i:130
this whole web-page should just explode!!!
’nuff said!
ADAM WEST WAS THE BEST BATMAN
BRING HIM BACK!
Michael Fassbender! Michael Fassbender! Michael Fassbender!
He is an excellent actor and would work perfectly to replace Christin Bale and still keep the original cast, themes, gadgets etc!
I SAY MICHAEL FASSBENDER IS THE MAN!!!!
damn u all got race issues or something and so what a black batman whats the deal they had a black nick fury no one was complaing and look how good he did so be quiet people
To the guy who said that casting Elba as Batman would be like casting George Clooney as Shaft, it’s absolutely not. The fact is that Shaft could only be played by a black man because he is a character that is defined by his blackness. What character trait does Bruce Wayne have that makes him quintessentially white? The fact that he’s wealthy and successful? You know who else is wealthy and successful? The president. Come on, you guys.
The whole concept of Batwing seems racist to me as well. They wouldn’t want to chance branching out with a black Bruce Wayne, so let’s give them their own Batman so they can have their fun without us white folks having to stifle our vomit at the thought of having to *gasp* look at a black man in a comic book! And while we’re at it, let’s put him in Africa, that way we don’t have to confront any nasty issues about American race relations.
-P.S. If you have to preface your statement with “not to sound racist,” chances are it DOES.
Anthony Miller, you’re an idiot. Lord of the Rings WAS a trilogy; its whole story was told in three films. Batman ISN’T a trilogy. Sure, Nolan’s done three films…and that’s his own Batman Trilogy…but Batman has been made into several films and several books, as well as games. Batman is a franchise, one that has been rebooted over time and will continue to be rebooted. If Batman will be rebooted, it will have a different storyline, different actor and won’t follow Nolan’s films in the SLIGHTEST. I think it’s ridiculous to stop showing Batman on screen because of Nolan’s films. How idiotic. Especially when, in my opinion, they’re far from what Batman should be. I loved Batman Begins, but The Dark Knight was terrible, in my opinion. Jesus, just because Nolan’s done a few Batmans doesn’t mean the entire cinematic world should stop for him. Get a brain, man.
Bruce Willis is Bruce Wayne, THE BATMAN
I think they should make a movie for every batman villain and then stop.
And really a black batman. I’m not racist or anything but he wears only black. Stays in the shadow, and you wanna make him black.
Well considering it’s Batman, who spends most of his time in the dark, you’d think having dark skin to blend in with the dark mask would work to his advantage. I don’t necessarily know how well it would photograph, but from a practical standpoint it makes sense. Hell, the only part of the Batman suit that shows skin is the mouth portion anyway, so would it even make that much of a difference?
Fassbender can play EVERY role in this goddamn universe. Simple as that guys.
NO to M. Fassbender! He’s a great actor, good looking and in great shape. The reality is I know I could kick his ass up the street and back. He would be another good James Bond. C’mon, Batman is not a pretty boy, he should look like he’s been through a meat grinder. Think retired war photographer gone actor…
Batman beyond with Bruce Willis as old Wayne, but if the story keeps going I think two names: R Gosling or Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Adren Brody ….. Iuno why I always just thought he’d be good… LOL
Idris Elba HAVE A CRACK AT GREEN LANTERN ( JOHN STEWART)
Honestly, Fassbender, and Hamm would both make really good Bruce Wayne’s or Batman. I love Bale’s Wayne, but his Batman is sadly lacking. Marky mark is..well he just wouldn’t fit if you ask me. Jake has the same basic problem as Bale does, He doesn’t have the chin for Batman. He doesn’t have the face for it.
Idris Elba… is the worst choice in this list though, And call me racist if you like, but it’s because he’s black, if this was animated, if it was a less high profile character, or if almost anything about him were different it could fit albeit as a stretch, but otherwise it just doesn’t work. And here’s why.
While I absolutely Love Idris Elba as an actor. His work on The Wire, and performance as Heimdall Blew me away, He couldn’t work for Bruce Wayne because Bruce Wayne is part of The Wayne Family, which is a very old Money Gotham Socialite family, dating back to a time when slavery was still a thing. There’s no way Old Money like the Waynes are black. It just is too much of a stretch on the character to accommadate an actor who ,while is a VERY good actor is simply not right for the role. Granted, I could see Idris as almost anyone else. Hell I’d even be glad to see him play Gordon (if we didn’t have to lose someone like Bryan Cranston or Gary Oldman to do it) Alfred, The Question, Zsaz, Mister Freeze, (Not Riddler, he’s far too physically intimidating to be The Riddler), Bane, Black mask, Clayface, Firefly, Two Face, Professor Hugo Strange(This makes me really want to see him in this role actually), Ras Al Ghul, any number of awesome characters would be good for him.
Jack Black will be the next Bathead
I think that Idris Elba is easily the best choice here. He has the right look and feel to be the Batman.
The absolute worse choices here are Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s no way they could pull off the role. They just don’t have what it takes. Wahlberg would be trying too hard to be tough and cool and Jake G. would be outright laughable. He’d feel more like your friend dressing up as Batman for Halloween.
At one point, back when Wesley Snipes was in his prime, I had pictured him playing Batman. The closest fans ever got to that was Snipes playing Blade.
Idris Elba could be the Batman that Snipes never got a chance to play. He brings the right blend of maturity and intensity needed to play both Bruce Wayne and Batman.
NO
Christian Bale is the best one to be Bruce Wayne or Batman
How about RYAN GOSLING??? The third man-crush(after Bale and Jackman)
It’s a shame they never got William Shatner to do Batman. He would have been perfect.
Idris is definitely not a good choice. Not being racist but he is BLACK! Batman/Bruce was never created to be be black.I agree that it would change the whole Batman universe changing race completly. The green lantern is a different story changing from white to black. Lanterns role isn’t as big as Batman so there was an easy switch.
This is slightly tricky. Fassbender and Hamm, I can totally see playing Bruce Wayne/Batman, Whalberg and Jake are an immediate no, no. Elba however is a tricky one. Batman’s never been black before and I’m not bing racist bu I don’t think he should be. However there have been quite a few race changes in comic book movies that haven’t always been a disaster, the notable exception being Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin in Daredevil, but Perry White is going to be played by Laurence Fishburne in the Man of Steel and I can totally see that working. It would be interesting to see someone of a different colour skin portray the Dark Knight and if anyone could it would be Idris. Let me just throw a possible name out there as a suggestion. Hugo Weaing? He’s a great actor and I can see him bein Batman very easily!
Ok, if you go through the Batman series Michael Keaton did a hell of job. And like someone mentioned, his movies were primarily comedy (i.e. Beetlejuice) before portraying Batman. Val Kilmer and George Clooney….ehhhh! The beauty of the current Batman franchise is that Nolan is a helluva’ writer/director. Bale plays the role well but it’s Nolan’s creative thinking that makes Bale shine. Without Nolan, Bale would be just be another actor casting for the role. It’s like being called up for an Oliver Stone picture. You know the movie is going to be a hit. It’s just a matter of who can step up to the plate and play the damn role. And as Idris goes, most people can’t see Batman being anything else but white because that’s what he’s always been but what if….given the write script….a black person nailed the part or any minority. I don’t many people could accept that Batman could be anything else but white. But just as Loosh said, there is a story line and in many instances that’s what breathes life into characters. But Idris would make a damn good nemesis. Just my two cents……
Two words, RICHARD ARMITAGE.
Jeremy Renner or Liam Hemsworth, Batman movies will continue as they make heaps of cash for Warners, i would like to see Bale continue, but it probably won’t happen. The Bat will rise again up against a new Joker within 2 or 3 years.
I think that after The Dark Knight Rises the Batman series should get a reboot and although I love the Nolen trilogy, it shouldn’t be set in reality… It should somehow tie in with the upcoming Man Of Steel movie, because with the money that The Avengers made, Warder Bros should cash in on that a make a Justice League movie… Michael Fassbender would be a good choice from Batman, but this is how I see the reboot. Call it “Shadow Of The Bat” I would like to see Jensen Ackles as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Malcolm McDowell as Alfred, Ben Foster as The Joker, Kristen Bell as Harley Quinn, Jay Baruchel as The Riddler, Mark A. Sheppard as The Penguin, Katie Cassidy as Catwoman and Taylor Lautner as Dick Grayson/Robin… YES! I SAID ROBIN! If it leads to the Justice League than we have to have Robin… Speaking of the Justice League, I think Megan Fox would own as Wonder Woman.
taylor laughtner? youve got to be kidding me
They should make a new soon The bat man is MADD
It would be cool if they made a new one there should be one
Plzz make a new one plzzzzzzzzzz
Since Christian Bale doesn’t want to play Batman anymore so When not if they do a reboot Batman should be played by Guy Pearce, the joker played by Rober England, riddler played by Johnny Depp, and catwoman played by Eve Mendes…
Sorry mate, but Christian Bale is up for more Batman-movies. He stated that in an interview, that he enjoys greatly playing Batman. Christian Nolan on the other hand, doesn’t want the Dark Knight trilogy to continue.
By the way Chris Nolan ended TDKR, the next Batman should be Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Also Robin should be played by Gregg Skulkin, and the Penquin should be played by Paul Giamatti…
the next batman will be the guy who plays john blake cus bruce wayne leaves his legacy to john sorry for spoilers films amazing though
Nolan said it was his last BATMAN film, he didn’t say anything about Nightwish, I’m not going to drop any spoilers but Nolan left the possibility of a Nightwish film incredibly open.
give chance to a another christian. …..? Christian slater can be perfect 4 it. A new batman.
Christian slater
I vote Will Ferrell :D
Tom Cruise as Batman. C’mon, he already has most of the Batman skills from Mission Impossible.
I hate how they ended the movie leading on to adventures with Robin and catwoman I am pissed
Wouldn’t Marky Mark’s past as a bad, wooden actor make him unsuitable for the job? Just a thought…
What about
Sam Worthington, he would make such a good batman. I can totally imagine it.. :D
Me. Nuff said.
They have to make a new batman movie so they can make a justice league movie (which they’re making because the avengers did so well). Nolans trilogy wouldn’t work with a justice league so…
….also I vote michael fassbender.
Karl urban should be the new batman
In my opinion bale was my favourite but as it’s ending They need new actors so I reckon either Ryan gosling or my fav James mcavoy has the potential to become the best superhero of all time! Look at this pic of mcavoy I brings out the batman I prefer!

Benjamin McKenzie as Batman.
Everyone can say what they want but no1 and i mean NO1 can replace christian bale as batman no matter how hard they try but instead of tryin to continue wit just batman y dont everyone look at who batmans sidekick was like really is everyone regettin about robin? Y not make the next one about robins uprising instead of just focusing on who batman will be i mean come on robin is batman sidesick he deserves his part of the new batman saga and u can always bring bruce wayne back in the furute when bale is ready to cone back
Okay, bear with me…I always thought Nicolas Cage would’ve made a good Batman. He’s quirky but he can also be very scary. Obviously he’s a little old for it now, but he would’ve been great.
Idris Elba….Batman is white. We said Batman not Blackman!
Bale play the best batman and should keep being batman he made it good not stupid like the old ones
i grew up reading and watching Batman, love the character…he is probably the best superhero out there!!! if Hollywood wants to stay true to the story of the Batman then they need to bring in Scott Adkins, Bruce Wayne is an expert martial artist…which Scott is as well he also has the acting chops to do it, watch Ninja and you will see what i mean and he can bring the action to the screen!! plus he can do his own stunts…. and i thought that Nolan’s movies were okay but could have been better!! Christian Bale is a good actor but he is not Batman… and i really didn’t quite get Christopher Nolan’s trilogy!!… especially TDKR, it takes place eight years after the Dark Knight…what happened in that span anything!! at first i thought i was watching that remake of the Dukes of Hazzard again…or Transformers!! i enjoyed Batman Begins, and sort of enjoyed The Dark Knight, or they could give Alex O’Loughlin a shot at the cape and cowl or Gary Daniels, there are some good directors that produce some awesome Fan Films btw ” City Of Scars ” was incredible or “Batman: Dead End” give those directors a shot true fanboys!!
