Why Does Tom Hiddleston Sound So Unsure Of Loki's Future?!

Is there such a thing as too much Loki?

Can someone please explain why Tom Hiddleston doesn't seem to know whether he's in Thor: Ragnarok?! As the stand-alone Thor arc stands, Loki is on the throne in Asgard having body snatched Odin and pretended he's dead to his brother, who is also under the impression that the God Of Mischief has redeemed himself. Logically, you'd have to suggest that the plan was always to have a follow-up movie (even before Ragnarok was even conceived as the third film) that explored him sitting on that throne. So it's continually surprising that Hiddleston - who is currently on the press tour for Crimson Peak (and is probably sick of being asked about Loki) - keeps saying "if" Loki returns, and suggesting that he has no idea what the situation is. It doesn't even feel like he's just hiding his appearance to preserve the secrets of the film. There would literally be no point in it. Here's what he said when asked about whether he ever thought that there might be such a thing as too much Loki:

"I never quite know whether people want to see him again or whether people want to move on€ I can€™t really take the temperature on it. It's so difficult, because IF it did happen again, I would try not to repeat myself. I would try to do something new. I never want to feel like I€™m retreading the same steps. I guess it€™s like any actor who plays a character over and over again. I wonder what it€™s like for the guys who play the Avengers!"
Could it be that the rumoured cameo in Age Of Ultron that didn't make it into the film (but was outed by Idris Elba spectacularly in the run up to the release) left some bad feeling? Did someone sacrigiligeously whisper that the audience might have reached peak Loki saturation as the cause of that cut? If so, someone at Marvel needs to be fired immediately. Aside from Ultron, Loki is the only villain in the entire MCU who has any kind of brand appeal. Sure, some of the others have offered fleeting glimpses of greatness, but they've all been hamstrung badly by awful scripts and the decision to kill them all off. Loki, atypically, has both longevity and cool, and if you suggested for one minute that he wouldn't be in Ragnarok, there'd probably be a civil war on Earth, never mind in Asgard. Hiddleston has so far dodged questions of whether he will return for Ragnarok, even if he does say that how Marvel help the actors do something different with their characters each time is "really remarkable". So there's still hope, at least, and even if Hiddleston doesn't return (a terrible prospect, but a possibility all the same), you'd have to suspect Marvel would recast, rather than cutting him out of Ragnarok altogether. The character is too important to that storyline. And to offer an answer to his question: yes, people who want to see Loki again. Do you want to see more of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
