Will Avengers: Infinity Trailer Really Debut This Month?

Could Jimmy Kimmel hold the answer?

Unless you were one of the lucky few fans who got to see the first Infinity War footage at either D23 or San Diego Comic Con earlier this year, the only trailers you will have seen for the biggest comic book ensemble movie ever will have been grainy, pirated versions. But then, you shouldn't have watched them anyway, you naughty things.

Inevitably, with the excitement that was whipped up by those lucky few, the hype for the first trailer's legitimate public release has gone up massively and the question of when it will actually drop has been everywhere. The Russos can barely get through an interview without someone demanding to know the exact date and time.

The conversation has kicked off again recently as a Twitter account called Marvel Newz (which posts random news bulletins without any links to the actual sources, somewhat suspiciously) claimed that the trailer is coming on September 29th. That's also the same date as the Inhumans debut, which might be where the claim comes from.

So are we actually going to see an Infinity War trailer before the end of the month?

If you're looking for a hint in Marvel's track record for when the trailer might come out, you're not going to find a great deal of useful information. It's not like there's really a pattern. The first trailers for Civil War and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 - the most recent MCU films released around the same time as Infinity War will be - dropped in November and December respectively. And The Winter Soldier - the only MCU film so far to come out in the same month as Infinity War in the US (April) - saw its first trailer in October.

Again, there's not a pattern.

There is a slight pattern in Avengers trailers, as both Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron saw trailers released in October (though the latter was after a leak, so who knows if that was the initial intention). Both were released in May (though in April if you're lucky enough to be in the UK), so there's some logic to thinking that Infinity War's trailer might come slightly earlier.

What would make sense is for Marvel to use another event as the launch point for the trailer. That could be New York Comic Con, or the Inhumans screen debut, or Thor: Ragnarok's release, or even The Punisher's appearance on Netflix. Most of those would suggest October (though it's slightly unclear at the moment when The Punisher will be released).

Whenever it is released, you have to suspect it will probably involve an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, who has become Marvel's partner of choice for first looks and new trailers. And interestingly, while the schedule for the rest of this week is set, so far, his guests for the 29th - the date suggested by Marvel Newz and the premiere of Inhumans - is listed as TBA.

Could that be because revealing he'll be joined by a handful of MCU actors would give the game away? Let's hope so, because this waiting game is getting a little frustrating.
