WWE And Rey Mysterio Possibly Heading For Financial Fallout

Details on the money Mysterio will be making.

WWE and Rey Mysterio could end up in conflict over U.S trademarks, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The 40 year old legend was officially set free from WWE this past week, and is already lining up a series of autograph and wrestling dates. He's charging $20,000 for a booking and promoters are already proving willing to take him at that high price. He's set to headline for AAA in the coming months. Despite being out of his WWE contract, it is thought that problems could still arise for Mysterio. Specifically, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter mentions ownership of the "Rey Mysterio" trademark in the U.S. "WWE owns U.S. trademarks on the Rey Mysterio name, image and likeness for merchandising, clothing, pretty much any type of name and image marketing along with performing as a pro wrestler in wrestling exhibitions," is what the report states. How Oscar Gutierrez will get around this is unknown. He's being marketed as Rey Mysterio Jnr for AAA, but for an upcoming nightclub appearance in Santa Clara during Mania weekend the marketing is calling him Rey Mysterio. It also appears that he's being called "Rey Misterio" in other branding. Mysterio had reportedly stopped cashing WWE cheques in the last year, with the belief that it could hurt a potential legal fight. If he and WWE are set for a legal showdown over money made on the Rey Mysterio trademark, then things could get very ugly on both sides. Both could make allegations relating to injuries, drug test failures and possible race issues. Rey claims to be 100% healthy after a year away from the ring. He stands to make a lot of money this next year, but WWE could quickly interfere if it is true that he's in breach of trademarks.
