20 Most Terrifying Video Games Of All Time

Whatever you do, don't play in the dark.

While the giants of horror royalty such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill are undoubtedly terrifying due to their graphic depictions of the grotesque, games don't need to a part of the survival horror genre to be terrifying.

Unsettling gaming experiences are far more varied than just being confined to that particular section of the games industry - in fact, the answer to the question of what makes anything scary is a difficult one to get right, and subjectivity plays a huge role in what each individual person may ultimately settle on.

However, most can agree that psychotic computer programs, celestial bodies with horrific faces and dimly-lit interiors are all concepts that are truly chilling by their very nature. If none of those sound even remotely scary to you, then you might be an individual more inclined to shy away from suggestively dark tales or experiences that leave you utterly defenceless in the face of danger.

Whatever it is that makes you lose control of bodily functions, you'll be sure to find at least something here that you'll need to wear a nappy for.

20. P.T. (Silent Hills)

Pt Silent Hills
Kojima

P.T. managed to soil the unmentionables of more gamers with its hour-long demo than many other horror titles manage with a full release.

All you have to do is walk down the same corridor over and over again, yet P.T. is so masterfully paced with its scripted events and claustrophobic corridors that it is truly, undeniably terrifying.
