Britain, Britain, Britain!

It's great to be British, as a majority of Scotland's residents clearly realised earlier this year when faced with the opportunity to scarper and play on their own: the weather might be less dependable than the transport systems and the food might range from passable to downright inedible, but there's a reason the kingdom is still called Great. Being British is a state of mind: it's a matter of having good manners, being slightly eccentric (whether in tastes or behaviour) and fundamentally knowing that you're just that little bit better than everyone else. Inevitably that comes with bad elements - like Nigel Farage - but the balance means there are also genuine comic gems - like Boris Johnson - and bona fide heroes - like Mary Berry on every corner. Celebrating the wonder that is Britishness, this collection of charming, eccentric and occasionally silly images are what it means to be British in 2014. Some lessons are clear: nobody quite does a publicity photo like the Royal Family; no-one takes to silly photo opportunities quite as enthusiastically as Boris Johnson; and British people will remain stoic and carry on no matter what the circumstances.
