10 Biggest Gaming Franchises With So Many Entries It's Just Offensive

10. The Legend Of Zelda

The Zelda series launched in 1987 with the NES game The Legend of Zelda, immediately becoming a colossal success for Nintendo and ending up as one of their premiere franchises. In the 17 years since Zelda first hit our screens, there have been 17 main titles in the series, spanning the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Nintendo Wii and also handhelds like Game Boy, Game Boy Colour, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS. In addition to this, there are over a dozen re-releases, remakes and spin-offs of Zelda games (perhaps most absurdly, an upcoming cross-over with Dynasty Warriors), as well as a small number of officially licensed Zelda games that Nintendo have opted not to recognise. An 18th main Zelda game is currently believed to be in production for the Wii U, but I surely can't be the only one who wishes Nintendo would just slow things a down a little? As much as the Wii U really needs a game of this caliber, I'd love more Zelda games to think outside the box a little and steer away from the ordinariness of Link having to rescue Princess Zelda from Ganondorf. A new game every 2-3 years would allow for a more creative final product that's probably also a lot more enjoyable.
