Video games can make you feel a great many things. Excitement? Hell yeah. Thrills? You'd better believe it. An actual sense of success and control over your life? Oh boy, yes. Still, alongside all the typical cheers, jeers, and fears, there are also times when video games can take your breath away.

The debate as to whether gaming counts as art is well and truly over. Anyone who plays a title like The Last of Us or Tears of the Kingdom and calls it a lesser medium has need of a bigger heart and a swift kick to the backside.

Now, as artwork, it's safe to say that games can often have a powerful impact on your emotions. The aim of the game may be fun and entertainment, but that doesn't mean you can't get teary-eyed as the use of sound, narrative, visuals, and more create something beautiful.

The following gaming moments are awe-inspiring examples of this. They come from titles of all shapes and sizes, from Triple-A releases to indie hits. But something they all have in common is that they'll give you goosebumps.

10. Your First Skydive - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Breath of the Wild had one of the best world reveals in gaming, as stepping out of the Shrine of Resurrection to see Hyrule for the first time was mind-blowing. But then came Tears of the Kingdom, which managed to go even further.

In this seminal sequel, you return to Hyrule, albeit with some of the gravity turned off. Your first look at the newest area you'll be exploring - The Great Sky Island - comes as you perform a leap of faith, jumping from a great height and soaring through the air.

In typical Zelda fashion, both the visuals and the score are spectacular. The music swells in a mighty crescendo that feels like the beginning of an epic adventure. Additionally, the dragon seen in the distance adds a dash of magic to this pitch-perfect video game moment - especially with added context on your second play-through.

There was so much concern as to whether this sequel could capture the majesty of its predecessor. However, this moment made it clear from the offset that you had nothing to worry about.
