The Walking Dead has been adapted multiple times in video game form, with the results being completely mixed.

Although Telltale has had great success with their narrative-focused TWD experience, combat-based adaptations like The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct have not fared as well. To that end, Payday developer Overkill Software are taking on the IP, hopefully providing a combat-heavy experience worthy of the Walking Dead name.

Announced back in August of 2014, Overkill's game is a co-op FPS with action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth elements. Players take on the role of survivors fending for themselves in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by those notorious Walkers. The game will explore original characters and will players to let loose in a Left 4 Dead-like zombie playground.

Although there's very little gameplay shown off so far for the game, the prospect of a fully co-op Walking Dead experience is enough to pique some interest. If done right, this could be a new Left 4 Dead multiplayer experience mixed with some intriguing story elements. Besides, there may be plenty of zombie games already being made, but none of them are promising this kind of zombie-killing experience.
