10 Gaming YouTube Channels That Are Actually Worth Your Time

Spoiler: PewDiePie isn't on this list.

There€™s a lot of terrible, fatuous tripe on Youtube, a hefty amount of which comes in the form of let€™s players baying for attention in front of their webcams for the amusement of children. Despite their inanity, the very worst offenders also happen to be staggering popular; Tobuscus, Markiplier and of course PewDiePie own some of the most successful video game channels on Youtube, the latter of which has reportedly earnt over $12,000,000 annually for the past several years, which is astounding to say the least. As a result of their popularity, these individuals tend to be the subject of every critical discussion, often overshadowing more deserving, less inane gaming channels. Sometimes, their reputations can be so damaging that they negatively impact the entire Youtube community, actively turning away newcomers in the process. For example, DarksydePhil, whose casual sexism and racist remarks made him so monumentally despised that he was actually shortlisted back in 2012 for the Worst Youtube Personality award. The good news is, Youtube€™s a big place; there€™s a lot out there to be discovered. In fact, plenty of gaming-related content already online is well worth your time; some of which aims to inform, some of which is just produced and executed with greater maturity, and some of which doesn€™t make you want to gouge your eyes out with a sharp stick.

10. The Gaming Historian

Creator(s): Norman Caruso A documentary series about the history of video games, Gaming Historian is a channel that is definitely worth checking out. Not only is the show well edited and professional looking, but the level of research that goes into each episode is nothing short of astounding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv7DJrLAZus Considering their relatively short length, a lot of information is packed into the running time; all being positively crammed with facts, and everything is contextualised to help paint a larger picture. After several episodes, you really do start to learn the history of video games; it€™s not just easily digestible trivia, it€™s a fantastic learning tool that I couldn€™t recommend more highly.
