10 Haunting Video Game Moments We’ll Never Forget

There's way more to Bioshock than being kind.

Video games can make us experience things in ways that no other medium can emulate. Sure, movies can contain some scary scenes, but when you actually have to control the action yourself, a whole new layer of fear is added to the experience.

When you're the one who has to stand and fight against some huge, hideous beast or flee from a psychopathic killer, you can feel that fear pumping through your veins, and this is why horror games remain so popular.

Not all of the games on this list come from the horror genre, but all of the following scenes are morbidly memorable and will go down in history as some of the most shocking, disturbing, and altogether terrifying moments gamers have ever experienced.

Oh, and as you might expect, there are **SPOILERS** ahead.

10. Laura (The Evil Within)

The Evil Within is filled with eerie moments, and what else would we expect from the godfather of survival horror and the creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami? One of the game's most fear-inducing creations is Laura. Looking like a cross between The Grudge and a giant spider, Laura gives terror a new definition and is the ultimate embodiment of everything that makes the best J-horror films so scary.

All limbs and claws, Laura's trademark screams and creepy movement shook players to the core, and every encounter with her was stressful and intense. The Evil Within was renowned for its gruesome death animations and Laura's was one of the worst as she caved in the player's skull with a series of bone-breaking blows.

The very first meeting with Laura comes as such a shock, as the player approaches a lifeless corpse, only to hear a spine-tingling scream and see Laura's talons rise from the ground in a burst of blood. It's a really scary scene and all you can do is run for your life and hope she doesn't catch up.

Mike Pedley hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
