Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart are the tip of the iceberg.
In the wake of CTR: Nitro-Fuelled being announced for a remaster in 2019, it brings about the topic of kart racing games as a whole. There was a time back in the day when everyone and their dead nan's dog had a kart racer, and the genre was awash with crazy, chaotic and colourful worlds.
Then things started to get serious. Mechanics were tightened, racing became less about cartoonish fun and far more about realistic competition. I personally blame the cancellation of Firefly.
