10 Times Controversy Made You Discover Amazing Video Games

There's no such thing as bad press.

You know that feeling when someone mentions something controversial, and the first thing you have to do is go and check it out? It's like that "Hey, don't watch this, you can't handle it" tagline is more alluring than any number of bombastic advertisements you'd see on something like Black Friday - and it's hard to explain why too. Seems like humans have this inbuilt primal need to seek out cerebrally-challenging imagery, or thoughts that would otherwise go against our most basic sensibilities, just to see how much they can take - how else would you explain peoples' love of gore in films or actually wanting to be scared senseless? It's like some bizarre twist on judging a book by its cover - but in a world of hyper-mediated everything, even the most negative coverage about a product will draw millions of people who need to judge for themselves regardless. If it wasn't for this media furore, chances are the likes of what's coming up wouldn't have been played by as many people as they were, but the developers and subsequent fans are surely thankful for having some of the biggest spotlights on earth shone in their direction. Which other titles generated so much of a controversial buzz you just had to check them out - only to be pleasantly surprised?
