2. Finding Bigfoot In GTA: San Andreas

The result of an imaginative populace being given a game world far bigger than anything they'd seen before, stories emerged from all directions as to what secrets lay in the Back O' Beyond. UFOs and Leatherface were common, but the biggest lie of all came from school playgrounds the western hemisphere over, that Bigfoot was in the game.

Mods like the above only fuelled these fires, as teenagers started reading "guides" online as to where the mysterious sasquatch might show up. That one friend we all have that lies about everything of course ran into one "just the other night", but didn't take any pictures or anything...

Of course, Bigfoot's model was never in the game, though the very reason there's an entire set of cutscenes dedicated to the creature in GTA V is in response to how overblown these assumptions and rumours became.

Say what you like about the internet's effect on society - at least we aren't chasing imaginary sasquatches in the dead of night anymore.
