12 Abusive Video Game Sequels That Completely Missed The Point

These failures have killed many a great franchise...

As gamers, there's not much that causes more anger than a bad video game sequel in an acclaimed franchise. Whatever the reason for the failure, dodgy video game sequels are extremely frustrating considering the lack of smart, innovative IPs on the market at the moment, where developers too often take the safe, money-printing option instead. Some follow-ups to awesome games will just flat-out suck due to shoddy development all-round, whereas others just miss the point entirely, either by attempting to appeal to a broader user-base, lazily sticking to tired formula, or in the opposite extreme, making so many changes that it no longer resembles the product that got us hooked on the franchise in the first place. These failures have killed many a great franchise, either by stopping them stone dead, or transforming them so drastically from their classic style of play that they couldn't possibly go back there. Some continue to plod on as mere shadows of their former selves, whereas others at least get to rest in peace without further damaging their reputations. As usual, feel free to vent your own anger in the comments, as there are plenty more candidates than this list can accommodate, and if you disagree with our picks, let us know!
