12 Best Superhero Video Games That Totally Nailed Their Characters

Who coded the definitive Batman, Spider-Man, Joker, Wolverine and more?

Look left, Batman V Superman, Captain America: Civil War and Suicide Squad. Look right, Batman: Arkham Knight, Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Marvel Heroes. It goes without saying, superheroes are in right now, and there's never been a finer time to be a comic book nerd.

However, video games aren't as rich with endless rollouts of characters making the transition as the silver screen, and as you may have picked up on from those opposing lists in the opening paragraph, we tend to only get one or two games every few years, instead of seeing any sense of consistency.

It's mostly down to games inherently taking far longer to put together than movies, but such a lengthy time in the oven does occasionally birth the finest versions of any superheroes across any medium. For example, compare Batman in the Arkham titles to his celluloid counterpart - even Batman V Superman ripped off the Arkham games' combat for that final warehouse scene - you just can't beat it.

That said, which superhero games totally nailed their characters better than the rest? Let us know in the comments, and see if you agree with my initial rundown...

Something the newer Spidey games have gotten away from is an open-world (save for the movie tie-ins, anyway), but therein lies the quintessential ingredient necessary to do the character justice.

Spidey should forever feel like he's being pulled in a thousand different directions at once, struggling to balance rounding up the city's villains with his home life - and possibly even stopping a bank robbery on the way between the two.

Nothing got across that sensation of New York's citizens genuinely relying on you to swoop in and save the day quite like the second Sam Raimi movie tie-in. Web of Shadows came close by fleshing out the Wall-Crawler's acrobatic moveset, but this instalment's story component highlighted the contrasting nature of what it's like being Peter Parker too, safely clinching it as the Spidey experience.
