12 Best Western-Themed Video Games Ever

2. Fallout: New Vegas

Red Dead Redemption
Bethesda

Despite having only recently taken over this franchise, creating the radiating wonder that was Fallout 3, Bethesda were happy to pass the reins over to developer Obsidian Entertainment for this rooting tooting follow up.

In reality, New Vegas is more root for loot and have a toot of Jet, with sparse elements of the game conveying anything that looks like a wholesome old West. But the game is so much better for this, transposing what made Fallout 3 so immersive, returning us to the setting of Fallout 2, giving it a dusty sheen, some amazing Cali locales and some fire geckos for good measure.

Disregard the ropey story – you play as ‘The Courier’, enough said really – and the fact this game is riddled with more bugs than you could fit on a brahmin’s behind, and simply marvel at that first time you stumble out from the wilderness, into the bright lights of this game’s titular city. Whilst The Courier’s story may have been long delivered, the Twittersphere continues to tease that Obsidian/Bethesda we will be whisking us back to the Mojave Wasteland in the not so distant future. Yee haw.
