15. Blighttown - Dark Souls

It wasn't enough for Blighttown's array of poisonous, homing bugs to make your life a living hell, oh no. FromSoftware never managed to get the frame rate smoothed out in this area of Dark Souls, so they... just released it anyway.

Over time it's become something of a "right of passage" for players to get through (which is probably why we've never seen an official patch), but the reality of Blighttown is that it's a monolithic slog.

Those aforementioned bugs are just the tip of the dung pile. There's an entire bottom floor of goop that restricts movement and saps health, a slew of awkwardly placed, around-the-corner enemies just waiting to flatten you - and one of the hardest bosses in the game that you can only get to by wading through this mess, over and over.

The jury's out on whether the area will be tweaked in the upcoming remaster, but in a way... here's hoping it's not.
