20 Best Video Game Moments Of The Decade (So Far)

The moments felt round the world.

With so many characters, worlds, game mechanics and interactions to consider, how do you narrow down the best singular moments from across the last five years? What are those definitive times where you were sat, controller tightly gripped or watching a certain cutscene unfurl, just knowing you'd be talking about what's on screen for years to come? Controllable spectacle in games is a hard thing to get right at the best of times anyway, as say a newcomer is trying to get the most out something like Gears of War or The Last of Us - they're incredibly cerebrally intense titles, asking that you perform all sorts of origami-esque manoeuvres with your hands whilst engaging in something like a life-or-death firefight, all while taking in some essential parts of a worthwhile narrative. Say you do get on board with the controls or the game's story though - what then makes a truly fantastic video game moment? Is it the hands-off cutscene where you get to see all your efforts come to fruition in on expertly-directed sequence, or maybe a certain boss fight that asked more of you than anything before? Perhaps a combination of the two, or something else entirely - it's due to gaming's fantastic sense of diversity that so many different things can mean so much to so many, but in an effort to celebrate the last five years of gaming, these 20 moments are sure to bring back that fuzzy feeling of "Oh hell yeah"-based euphoria that makes such a passionate medium so enjoyable.
