Much like Just Cause 4, the latest Hitman game presented pretty meagre offerings in the storytelling and character stakes, even if that's never been a strong suit for the assassin sandbox series.

What passes for a story here is doled out in atrociously lazy storyboards rather than the expectedly glossy cut-scenes, apparently a consequence of Square Enix ditching developer IO Interactive mid-production.

At least the core gameplay is, for the most part, pretty excellent, and while the sandbox doesn't afford many additional opportunities for Agent 47's character to grow, playing the ruthless, bald assassin is as fun as ever.

But please try a teensy bit harder with the narrative next time, m'kay?
