Assassin's Creed 3: Gameplay Teaser Hints At Killing For Pleasure?

Brand new gameplay teaser trailer hints at story detail and invites fans to unite to unlock a full trailer.

Ubisoft have today unveiled a brand new gameplay teaser trailer for upcoming fantasy actioner Assassin's Creed 3, which is the first step to the official gameplay trailer unveil, which is set to arrive shortly. When it does depends entirely on you lot (especially if you're in North America anyway). Because Ubisoft are charging fans with expressing their excitement for the project in a tangible, and crucially measurable manner by unifying people they know to help unlock the whole trailer...
"Gamers can channel their collective excitement for Assassin€™s Creed III to band together in a valiant effort to unlock the world gameplay premier of Assassin€™s Creed III in the Unite to Unlock campaign. This program asks gamers to enlist their friends through Twitter and Facebook in a unified effort to reveal the gameplay of Assassin€™s Creed III."
There isn't yet a goal for the Facebook Likes total, but whatever it is is likely to be met pretty swiftly, so we can probably expect to see the first gameplay very soon. For now though, all we have is this intriguing teaser... http://youtu.be/P_aIfCUrEfs The big issue for me, and the reason for that loaded title up there is the positioning of the arrow that our new protagonist fires into his prey. In the other Assassin's Creed games, killing is perfunctory and necessary for the advancement of objectives - there is no pleasure in the act, because the marks are simply tasks to be overcome. But in this teaser trailer the mark is shot in a painful but not immediately incapacitating place - the back of the calf, rather than in the knee - and there appears to be opportunity to take a killing shot, which isn't taken. Instead, the assassin stalks his wounded prey, intent on finishing him off with his tomahawk - a far less "clean" kill, and one which is far more loaded with emotional piquancy. That perhaps has something to do with the more emotionally loaded plot, and hints at a vengeance plot that blossoms from a Colonial attack on hero Connor Kenway's home. This killing machine protagonist now feels the kills on a wholly personal level (hence his choice of weapon), which could well cast huge waves in the Assassin's Creed series: yes we have seen stories of vengeance in the series before, but this appears to be something different, something new. So, does this hint at a story detail? Something more pronounced in the Colonial attack on Connor's home? A cause for great personal vengeance? We shall see. Here's hoping the full trailer appears by the end of the week: there are some pressing questions we would like answered.
