Assassin's Creed: Victory - 10 Key Features That Need An Overhaul

5. Ditch The Multiplayer

Stealth titles very rarely work in multiplayer - just ask Tenchu Z - one of the earliest examples of what Unity was also going for; that idea of a group of ninja-assassins infiltrating and taking out a target, before disappearing like they weren't there. Be honest though, did the idea of a multiplayer component to Assassin's Creed even enter your head when you were playing the first couple of games? Ubisoft managed to crowbar in their optional 'find your opponent in the world'-mode that actually worked remarkably well, but still you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who's still playing it today, let alone that'd mention it as something to play with friends over a game that focusses on direct competition. For Unity, Ubisoft promoted the idea of playing as a team of four people and all bugs aside, it just isn't enjoyable. Somewhere along the way someone's connection bottoms out, they get spotted or the game engine itself crumples under the stress of running four separate (essentially single-player) experiences simultaneously. The crushing realisation that hundreds of people on the development side all tried to contribute to one vision was all too apparent. Instead of spreading ideas that require intense focus across so many people, Ubi should get rid of everything outside the core Assassin's Creed experience as it was no doubt conceptualised before turret sequences and custom bombs got in the way.
