Batman Arkham Knight: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Arkham Knight

With only three weeks until E3 and a whole batch of fresh fan-speculation - who is the Arkham Knight?

The brilliant Arkham series has brought gamers face to face with some of the best, weirdest and most memorable villains in Batman's rogues gallery, from The Joker and Harley Quinn to Mr Freeze and Deathstroke, but the latest title will introduce an all-new character to take down The Dark Knight. Batman: Arkham Knight will see the Caped Crusader coming up against a whole host of classic foes, but also the titular Knight him(or her)self. Designed by comic artist Jim Lee and with a backstory cooked up by comics-writer Geoff Johns, this new addition to the many, many superpowered headaches players will be punching, batarang'ing and swooping-down-from-rooftops'ing, is shrouded in secrecy. Who is the Arkham Knight? Could it be an existing Batman villain playing copycat? Rocksteady claim otherwise, but we're wary of trusting these superhero people. Here are ten characters from the Arkham series and the comics who could be hiding beneath that hi-tech cowl.

10. Lock-Up

In Arkham Knight a year has passed since the Joker's death and things are finally looking up for Gotham City. Crime's on the decline, the sun is shining, people can even sit on the toilet without worrying there's a Killer Croc awaiting underneath. That is until a cabal of Batman's deadliest villains team up to try and take Bats down once and for all. The Arkham Knight could be with them...or, given the outfit and Arkham branding, could he be against them? If so, his MO would fit that of Lock-Up, who first appeared in the 90s animated series but came into his own with the No Man's Land storyline in the comics. Following a series of devastating earthquakes, Gotham City is cut off from the rest of the US. Lock-Up, as his name suggests, takes it upon himself to take over the running of the Blackgate supervillain prison. He's not exactly a hero himself mind, and rules with an iron fist. We can see the Arkham Knight playing a similar role as a more brutal vigilante than Batman who also fights crime, but is a little too...overzealous with the bone-breaking.
