E3 2012 Rumour: Next Left 4 Dead Game a Prequel?

A prequel to Left 4 Dead in the works?

About a month ago it was confirmed that The Heist developer Overkill Entertainment would be working on a Left 4 Dead project with Valve, but no details about the game were announced. Well today there are rumors from CVG that the game will be a prequel to the first two. According to the website, the "game that will tell the story of the zombie outbreak that happened before the original Left 4 Dead games." Overkill released a statement saying:
"As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into Payday: The Heist, which has led to various rumors, We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production. "We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done."
The other interesting thing to consider is what platform this Left 4 Dead game will be released on, both the previous Left 4 Dead games were exclusive to PC and Xbox 360. However, Overkill has developed mainly for PSN and PC; so will a Left 4 Dead game finally be making its' way the the PS3? As of right now this is only a rumor and should of course be taken with a grain of salt, but with that being said I can totally see this being a legitimate rumor. People have always wanted to know more about the Left 4 Dead world and how the zombie outbreak started so there is definitely some merit to the rumor of the game being a prequel.
