E3 2017: 5 Ups & 4 Downs From Nintendo Spotlight

Nintendo makes the most of their brief presentation.

What a weird and wild ride this year's E3 has been, and following on from EA, Microsoft, Bethesda and Sony is Nintendo, who again flouted the typical conference formula in favour of their own brief Nintendo Spotlight livestream.

Yes, there were notable absences from their short-but-sweet show, but they certainly did a fantastic job hyping up several major upcoming releases, and pushed the fanboy buttons hard with the announcement of two long-awaited titles for Nintendo Switch.

Did Nintendo just "win" E3? Some are certainly saying so, though others are taking a more measured approach to their showing, and there are even those convinced that Ubisoft were the real winners of this year's event, which really tells you just how bizarre and underwhelming a year it has indeed been...

Downs...

4. No Smash Bros. Or Animal Crossing

Despite persistent rumours that Super Smash Bros. for Switch would make its long-awaited debut during Nintendo's E3 Spotlight, the show came and went without the highly anticipated beat 'em up making a peep.

Animal Crossing fans were also left wanting, as though online rumours have pointed to Nintendo prepping an Animal Crossing for the Switch, it was in fact nowhere to be seen.

They're surely going to arrive sooner rather than later, but this would've been the perfect time to whip fans into a frenzy and win E3 right out of the gate, especially as Nintendo's competition didn't exactly have mind-blowing conferences this year.

The wait continues...
