Every Pokémon Generation Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Generation 7 (Pokémon Sun & Moon)

The most recent generation of Pokémon is admittedly a mixed bag, but overall, has more likeable Pokémon than the previous two generations. For one thing, the starters are a return to form, with Rowlet being the most adorable grass-type starter to date, and Litten and its evolutions being formidable fighters (despite Incineroar's uncomfortably furry-esque appearance). Solgaleo and Lunala are awesome in both design and gameplay, and Mimikyu is quickly becoming one of the most beloved Pokémon of all time.

Minior is a pain to catch, but a strong Pokémon with an interesting design. Mudbray and Mudsdale are a worthy addition to any party, and Stufful, resembling a red panda, instantly shoots into the upper echilons of cuteness.

However, the bad in gen 7 is really bad. Sandygast and Palossand (haunted sandcastles) and Comfey (some kind of kawaii lei) are the typical inanimate objects given faces, and despite being relatively strong, Bruxish has a truly awful design. In contrast with Rowlet and Litten, Popplio is pretty useless as a starter, and its evolutions leave a lot to be desired.

The Ultra Beasts have proven divisive, and while they are undeniably powerful, many of them have pretty lacklustre designs, and there's arguments as to whether they even qualify as Pokémon. In a Pokémon game, that's not good.
