Evolve: 7 Things Needed Before It Dies Out

Evolving to extinction...

There have been numerous perceptions of Evolve since its initial release in February. Those who haven't played it forever presume it's laced with micro-transactions and DLC to a fault, and those who have got stuck in are becoming annoyed at how awkward it is when a lack of team chat options hampers an otherwise solid experience.

Some of those views have definitely affected the size of the player pool - it's taking longer than ever to find games, and people ALWAYS back out right before they're about to lose because their win/loss ratio is more prominent than ever. Only those who have solid groups to run with, those who have enjoyed it from day one and - more importantly - those who can at least attempt to discuss tactics with their team are still religiously playing.

I've played the game since release, and since then I've ended up being world #1 Hyde on PS4, ran with every other #1 in the game, won MLG games - pretty much everything. It's been a great experience, but after all the fun I've had even I'm getting sick of it.

This isn't because we'd rather play 'noobs', instead there should always be a tiered system in place for newcomers and long-term players alike - but it's very easy to improve the experience of those who are playing right now.

For example, what fun is a multiplayer-focused game when you're constantly playing against a bot? Here are 7 Things Needed Before Evolve Dies Out.

7. More Game Modes

Evolve's main mode is Evacuation - an asymmetrical game mode that supposedly has 800,000 possible combinations with, made up of the hunters you pick, the monsters you face, who wins, and what maps you win on etc. Of course, you see 800,000 and think "Holy sh*t it's going to be packed! It'll never get boring!" but it's not like the changes have a HUGE impact on your play style.

Compiled of four game modes; Hunt, Skirmish, Rescue, and Defend, they're still pretty good to play, but it's nowhere near a big enough selection to keep the players busy.

Steering away from the likes of Hunt, Turtle Rock should look into fun game modes - even a traditional "Capture The Flag" option would immediately give the game a faster pace. Four hunters working together to take the flag as the monster defends it, for example.

Many players have called out for a truly ambitious game mode - 12 hunters against three monsters. Yes, it does sound great, but it would be an absolute calamity, mainly because the servers struggle to sustain a five player run through on Evacuation as it is.
