Sporting CP have had possibly the most tumultuous transfer window ever seen
by a professional football team. Crazier than that window when everyone thought
Gerrard was going to Chelsea.
At the end of last season, the Sporting team was attacked by 50 fans at
their training ground, leading nine players to terminate their contracts and
join new clubs across the globe, including Rui Patricio to Wolves and Gelson
Martins to Atletico Madrid.
What better way to jump into FIFA 19 than with a completely clean slate? You
can build one of Portugal's great teams back up to their former glory,
attracting new players with the club name and attractive football.
You may have to grind out some results, but honestly the Primeira Liga is
not as well-endowed with quality teams as some of Europe's other leagues, so a
Champion's League spot is not out of the question.
The nine absentees have hurt Sporting's attacking options the most. However,
despite being in his 30s now, Nani can still do as many stepovers as he could
in his United days, and although his pace is deteriorating, his first touch
after receiving a long ball is still exquisite.
With their top three goalscorers from last season all leaving over the
summer, Marcos Acuña, who scored six last season, will have to step up to the
plate. Maybe a new striker is required before the season gets underway, or
perhaps some clever through-balls from a dextrous-fingered gamer would give him
the opportunities he needs to ascend to greatness.
