Gaming Merch #3

This week in Gaming Merch, I'll be taking a look a prototype figure of Mass Effect's Liara T'soni.

Love Mass Effect but also love that anime look? Well you are in luck. Model manufactures Kotobukiya have opened preorders for a new figure in the Bishoujo line, with promise of more characters from the series at a later date. Everyone€™s favourite Asari, Liara T€™soni, will be depicted in the white and blue outfit seen in the Shadow Broker DLC. The figure itself, while still essentially a prototype, looks pretty good. Looking at the concept art for the figure you can see the level of work that went into making sure the costuming is accurate down to the little details. I apologise that the game footage picture of Liara isn€™t the clearest, but any Google search throws up more fan-made (and a little too many non-PG) pictures than official ones. Comparing the concept art to game stills of Liara it€™s a little easier to pick out where artistic liberty has been taken, particularly with aspects of her anatomy as well as giving her a more cutesy look, but this is almost a standard in the Bishoujo figure series. As you can see from the unpainted figure, the detail seen in the concept art has been transferred particularly well. How this will look in the final product remains to be seen, but going from other figures in the series you will not be disappointed. The figure is currently available for preorder at Hobbyfan for $52.99, which works out at about £34 without factoring in shipping costs, and will be avaliable from an estimated date of May 31st 2012.
