If you played Rocksteady’s ultimate Batman experience, their Arkham Series, you were surely captivated. In fact you’d probably be hard pressed to imagine how any other company could produce a better Batman game.
Well imagine for a moment that there is a multiverse, and in one of the alternate realities – Earth 2 – Rockstar secured the rights to the property, instead of Rocksteady. We’d have had a completely different Bat-beast on our hands and who knows, maybe it’d even have been better. And that’s a big maybe.
We’ve spent some time (too much time?) imagining what this alternate Rockstar Batman game would have been like and here is our hypothesis!
Concept
The concept is quite simple – the execution maybe not so much – but the premise of this Batman game can be explained in a sentence: “a fully open-world Gotham City that you’re free to peruse at your leisure and in whatever manner you choose, while progressing the story through missions that periodically become available”.
It’s a classic Rockstar format that’s worked for them time and time again and they’ve proven throughout their many acclaimed releases that as a genre that the Third-Person Sandbox format still has enough depth left to be mined for unique, innovative gameplay. And that’s where The Caped Crusader comes into the picture.
If there’s one defining characteristic that could indicate why Rocksteady’s Arkham series did so well, it’d be for the fact that it’s the closest you can come to being Batman without actually diving off a skyscraper. Well, a Rockstar Batman game could deliver that same feeling and more.
You could visit the Batcave, any time you wanted. Cruise about Wayne Manor at leisure, as Batman or as Bruce Wayne. You could switch between Caped Crusader and acting as a billionaire playboy at will and you could visit any of Gotham’s famous districts whenever the urge overtook you. In short, you are Batman and Gotham is yours. The only question is what will you do next?

Disgusting attempt to get viewers by using the word Batman alongside GTA. We know what you’re playing at.
But our article is about a GTA / Batman game?
Should we have used Super Mario and Zelda?
How dare anyone write something people might want to read!!!
It’s not a big maybe, if rockstar made a batman game OF COURSE it would be better, there’d be a much bigger map, better graphics + game mechanics and not to mention the story would be longer than 8 hours long.
it’d be much better than the rocksteady ones, MUCH better, why?, the story would be longer than 7-8 hours
Well Rocksteady Batman Games Focus More On Detail And Rockstar Games Version(Don’t Get Me Wrong I Love GTA Red Dead And All The Rest) Would Be More Action Of Couse Better Free Roam But Less Detail And Gameplay Because Rockstar Base Themselves On Gunplay Batman Nor Bruce Wayne Use Guns Thats Something They Will Have To Work On
well u got to think about it if they did a batman themed GTA they would probley give u the choice of a thug man or woman working for joker or someone else! And the possibility of playing, an create your own hero working with batman or working alone, of course you cant kill any one working along with The Batman!
You have to be more opened minded jacky boy….aaaaawwwwwoooooo
I’ve been wanting this game to exist ever since GTA3 came out! Your article pretty much matches my vision exactly. Do you guys remember the Batman and Robin game for PS1? Terrible game but the concept was way ahead of its time.
Every Word Capitalised And No Periods Or Other Punctuation Marks Imagine If Someone Talked The Way That You Type Would It Not Be Very Annoying Very Annoying Indeed Yes It Would It Would Be Very Annoying You Should Work On That Really
Sorry, wrong fellow, obviously.
i like this idea. well thought out too. i would miss mowing down people in my cars though and just robbing them
Some of this Rocksteady has done, but I like the creativity behind the idea. Having a Batmobile (and different types) would be fun, and I like the alter-ego ideas. Having to find a way to fight crises as Bruce Wayne without being seen or having to find a way to duck out of view to change to Batman could be fun and challenging. I love the Detection mechanic most of all. Cool way to find unlockables or sidestories.
I want this game already!!!
