As they say in bad sequels; here we go again. Sometimes it amazes me that GTA V is as hyped, as anticipated as it is. I’ve penned so many articles for this site now that I can barely remember writing most of them. But when I look back at the most widely read articles in my portfolio, the same acronym pops up again and again: GTA V, GTA V, GTA V.
Is it the most hotly anticipated game of all time? It’s hard to say. But the fact remains that it’s one of the most hyped, most talked about and most written about topic on the internet right now, and it has been for since I started this job. But why?
Well, there’s no simple way to answer that question. Undoubtedly, it’s for many different reasons some of which are obvious, and some of which aren’t so much. But the fact remains that GTA V is on countless minds even right now; it’s being entered into Google repeatedly from stations dotted around the globe; it’s being talked about in schools, in workplaces, even in the mainstream media.
Here are my ten theories as to why GTA V is as unbelievably hyped as it is; call it fuel for the fire.

Pretty much nailed it, i like the realism but really hope that they bring back the fun arcady aspects and can somehow incorperate the two together. The biggest problem with gta 4 was that there was nothing you could do on completion of the game (bar multiplayer) there needs to be more side missions ect.
GTA IV’s story was a total bore; I’m playing through it again now and it’s not remotely interesting. A return to the enthralling gang warfare of San Andreas is much needed.
These articles are pretty entertaining while i wait for GTA to come out… But i totally agree with what you said. I am the guy waiting to see whether or not this is the last GTA game i will ever care about. (Actually if this game came out and sucked; WHICH IT WONT!! and another came out a few years later i would probably buy that one too..)
Great article and great insight!
hey dude max Payne was not made by rockstar games but was made by remedy entertainment in fact only mp3 is made by rockstar studios….so get your facts right….otherwise great article!!!!
You aren’t very bright. Rockstar Toronto developed the ports of the game. So, get YOUR facts straight.
no dude, your wrong akshay is right. max payne one ant two, developed by remedy and published by R*.. R* developed max payne 3, published by take two…. and being unintelligent has nothing to do with this topic, especially a game at that!!.
You totally nailed this article mate! I loved the realism and gripping story of GTA IV, but I also loved the sheer craziness of the older titles. Whichever way Rockstar decide to take GTA V I will be happy. Love the articles. Keep adding to the hype!
Good read I like the realistic approach in IV granted it had much less to do on it but if they can add side activities and the old school cheats, peds riot/have weapons etc maybe even the jet pack it would bring some of them classic moments back. I’m really hoping bullet damage will be vastly improved from IV.. I want it to be like red dead but even better putting holes in peeps heads with pistols, blowing there limbs/head off with the shotgun/RPG.
Hand to hand could also be improved abit make the fighting more fluent and different peds tougher than others like real life. I also think damage in H2H needs to be added when I hit someone I want there eye to black, nose to bust/break, face to cut and even jaw to break.
I’ve been a big fan of GTA since III on the PS2 and I’ve both every Playstation port of the game since. I’ve been just like everyone else since the release of the trailer for GTA V. i.e. I’ve gone straight to Google news daily searching for updates on it and overall I’ve been really excited about it BUT, after buying Sleeping Dogs (Thinking it would just be ‘filler’ until GTA V arrived) I don’t think I’m gonna be buying the new GTA, I’ve completely lost interest in it as I just don’t see how Sleeping Dogs can possibly be topped….It was honestly the best game I’ve ever played!! So, I’m afraid it’s a sad goodbye to GTA and a long wait for Sleeping Dogs 2!!
the game is nothing compared to gta, was worse than saints row
I liked the realism in IV alot actually but I didn’t like Niko and didn’t like that they got rid of the customization that was in San Andreas, which i felt made them take like 10 steps back. Cause SA really did alot for open world games. Then hopefully the new main character is good cause playing as a character that I’m not a fan of, Niko, it’s hard to get into the game. Luckily IV had the DLCs so I can be Johnny, who is infinitely better than Niko, and even to me the story was better in Lost and Damned (and it’s not cause I’m a hardcore SoA fan). I just want a character that isn’t 2D and that you can actually feel for the guy.
I was so hyped for GTA IV that I was there on day one (first ever) to buy it…played it for 30 seconds and wanted to DESTROY IT. For a game that has 99% driving…it was HORRIBLE. I’m done with RockStar if GTA V is in anyway dissapointing…help keep my love alive RockStar…San Andreas was my favouite…
wtf man, driving in gta iv was the funniest thing in the game! in my opinion you don’t played at all the game… try it is even better than gran turismo 5!
The problem was that they cut out many thing from IV .. like airplanes, military things, cars customization …
that’s why we like V so much, because is going to have the grafic and physics of gtaIV or better! with all the fun of san andreas .
I liked the article, but the main reason for my love of the GTA brand is the ability to go spree killer crazy while stealing cop cars and mowing people down on the sidewalk. There was no game like that ever created before. It has evolved from birds-eye view with bullets the size of your head to picking off cops out of helicopters. I believe that’s the heart of GTA. The things that physcopaths dream of every day you can do waiting for your wife to get out of the shower. That’s the hype.
