According to a report out today, Mafia II developer 2K Czech is helping in the development of Rockstar’s mega franchise Grand Theft Auto V.
Apparently 2K Czech has been helping Rockstar with production animations for cutscenes and gameplay. In addition, Rockstar is sharing trade secrets with 2K Czech to help them grow as a developer.
Take Two wants to turn the Mafia games into a major franchise so Rockstar is sharing some of their tech knowledge with 2K Czech in hopes that the developer will become as strong as some of the other Rockstar studios.
Even though Mafia III has apparently gone into full production there is no timetable as to when the game will even be shown let alone released. There was a report that 2K was in attendance for the Durango developers summit (codename for the next gen Microsoft console), so there is a chance that Mafia III is being developed for next generation consoles.
Mafia II divided a lot of people with some great characters and story telling, while at the same time the gameplay was a major criticism. However, this is all still a rumor until Take Two confirms any of this. However, I would say it is not out of the ordinary for Rockstar to work with and help other studios develop games like they did with Team Bondi and LA Noire.

NOWAY……
Whats mafia???
I can not believe the GTA SERIES DEVELOPERS NEED TO HELP FROM OTHERS FOR GTA V!!!!
I’m guessing you’ve never played a Mafia game, which is a real shame because they are incredible. Especially Mafia 2 which was amazing yet very underrated, I would recommend it for any gamer who enjoys open world games such as this, GTA, Saints Row etc. So maybe you should check it out before asking “Whats Mafia?”
Also, why find it so hard to believe that Rockstar need help? Yes they are a very large and experienced company, but with the world as it is, is it such a crime to ask for a little help? And with Max Payne 3 in the making and soon to be released, L.A Noire 2 production rumours, and GTA V.. can you blame them for needing it? Its not even a big part which 2K Czech is playing, “helping Rockstar with production animations for cutscenes and gameplay” Previous Rockstar and 2K games animation quality has never been something to kill a game, so why would the two working together be a problem?
Ah well, this story has gone from rumours, to fact, to lies in a matter of days. So who knows what is happening!
Peace out.
@Martyy23:
Hi,
Actually, I do not like Saints Row and Mafia very much. I am a big GTA series fan. But if this is rumor true, I hope GTA V will still have the GTA Magic.
Hmm I know very little about game creation but to me this does not look good in terms of a 2012 release…I was under the impression the bigger items of the game would have been more or less done and it would be just tweaking and testing between now and November/December?
On the other hand perhaps they are bringing in the Mafia guys to help so they can get it out before Xmas……hmmm here’s hoping

Max Payne is made by Rockstar Vancouver and Rockstar London.
All GTA games are made by Rockstar NORTH in Britain. (All Portable GTA games are made by Rockstar LEEDS in Britain)
So its nothing to to with being too rushed off their feet,Rockstar has many diffrent divisions.
Rockstar North,Rockstar London,Rockstar Leeds,Rockstar Lincoln all in Britain.
Rockstar Toronto and Rockstar Vancouver in Canada.
Rockstar Japan
Rockstar San Diego in America.
Rockstars head office is in New York but no games are made in New York.
“A 2K Games representative told GameSpot, “Rockstar Games and 2K Czech are not working on any projects together. We haven’t announced any plans regarding a future Mafia release.”
