GTA VI Could Be Sci-Fi Based And Set In The Future

Given that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V will mark the fifteenth entry in the long-running and massively popular crime franchise, it's not too surprising to learn that RockStar are looking in all kinds of places for inspiration when it comes to the next installment. And if what we've seen of GTA V so far shows an franchise that has been honed into what arguably appears to be its "perfect form," where else is there for the studio to take the franchise? According to recent reports, the future is certainly a possibility. That's right: RockStar boss Dan Houser has cited the idea of sci-fi GTA game as "very tempting." Take a look at what he had to say on the matter below:

"We will do it the very second we have an idea. One of our strengths is the consistency of the game world. We're not necessarily the best writers in the world, but we know how to write a video game. It's all down to the story though, with RockStar yet to pin down a satisfying angle from which to approach the space-faring genre. When we decided to make a Western, it was because we knew we had something to say.

We have no interest in going into science fiction for the sake of flying cars and laser guns. The best science fiction stories are those that speak about the human condition. So while this idea is very tempting and, by definition, anything's possible in a video game, we lack the essential thing for the moment: a good reason."
We'll admit that the idea of running around a fully-rendered sci-fi city with futuristic weaponry and jet-bikes seems like good reason enough. Not to mention the creative possibilities that come with setting the game in the future. What do you think? Would you like to see a sci-fi GTA game? Which other genres do you think would work for the franchise? Source: TechDigest
