Guild Wars 2: 11,000 Players Affected By Hackers
More than 11,000 passwords have been taken from accounts, a spokesman has confirmed.
A spokesman for the popular game Guild Wars 2, has announced today that more than 11,000 passwords have been taken from accounts. This has mainly been put down to user's credentials being taken from a not yet named fan site that has recently been targeted by the hackers. The game's developers have moved to alerting users via e-mail when an account is accessed from a different location. Other advice, quite simply, is to change passwords. They stated that over the last weekend they received in excess of 8,000 support requests that related to accounts that had been compromised. A statement was released that stated: "If you don't want your account hacked, don't use the same email address and password for Guild Wars 2 that you've used for another game or web site," officials wrote over the weekend. "Hackers have big lists of email addresses and passwords that they've harvested from malware and from security vulnerabilities in other games and web sites, and they're systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts."The company also believe that the majority of hack attempts are coming from China, and one player even said that people had tried to access their account 10 times in a single day. So, if you play Guild Wars 2, take their advice. Change your password. To something you do not currently use. Something unique to you.
