Kingdoms of Amalur Uses Online Pass for Single Player Missions

EA has managed to keep this quiet but when a reviewer received his copy today he got a little unfriendly surprise. Kingdoms of Amalur will indeed use an online pass even though it is a single player game. The online pass includes seven single player missions and the bonus Mass Effect 3 DLC. Normally online passes are only used for games with multiplayer; where you need to enter the code to gain access to the multiplayer feature or online functions. Recently Warner Brothers did this same very thing with Batman: Arkham City; where to gain access to the Catwoman missions you had to buy the game new to get the code. Online passes are done mostly in an attempt to deter used game sales, but generally they just piss gamers like me off who buy the game legitimately and have to enter a code for no reason (I don't trade my games in because you don't get what they are truly worth back) to get the complete game. Not to mention the reviewer found out his code doesn't even work so he can't get the missions anyway; this happened to me with another EA game Dragon Age: Origins where I couldn't get my bonus material to work because the servers wouldn't accept my codes. EA did nothing to fix my problem and I didn't get my "free" content until seven months later when EA finally fixed their server issues. Ironically the game that Kingdoms of Amalur is being compared to the most Skyrim shipped nearly 10 million copies and didn't need an online pass to keep players from selling the game back. Besides instead of buying a game used just wait a few weeks and the game will go on sale at Amazon.com for $40 (US) much cheaper than buying used. Release Date: US February 7, EU February 10
