Media Molecule is apparently moving away from the LittleBigPlanet franchise that has brought them so much praise the past few years. According to their website they are ”working on brand new IPs, even more ambitious than LittleBigPlanet was when it was conceived 6 years ago.” In addition, if you read further on it states:
“You’ll be joining a small, multi-discipline team very early in the process and will help to define all aspects of the game code and design.”
To me this sounds like Media Molecule is building there next game from the ground up. In other words, Media Molecule new IP is probably a project that will be totally different from the LittleBigPlanet franchise (maybe a first person shooter because we don’t have enough of those).
In addition, some of the job listings call for “working across different projects on different platforms”; this could mean several different things. Since Media Molecule is owned by Sony they will not be creating games for different consoles. What this probably does refer to is that Media Molecule’s next project will likely be on the PS3 and PlayStation Vita.
However, this could also indicate that Media Molecule’s next project will be on the next generation PlayStation console as well. LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet Vita are being developed by separate studios (United Front Games and Tarsier Studios), meaning we may have seen the last of Media Molecule on this generation of consoles.
I hope I am wrong about this but it generally takes at least two to build a game from the ground up and in the job listing Media Molecule states they are “ very early in the process”. That is why I think that we may not see another game from them until the PS4, they may however port whatever they are working on over to the PS3.
