Metal Gear Solid V - 10 Characters Who Could Make A Surprise Appearance

Hideo Kojima always does what's least expected.

Remember that scene at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 where Big Boss makes a shocking return, nicely tying together the two generations of characters seen throughout the series? It's a great moment - one that gave fans one last big surprise before the credits. On the flip side, Hideo Kojima has always been known to trick and tease followers of MGS too. Series' legend Solid Snake was sneakily replaced as the lead character by newcomer Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2, despite most pre-launch materials still heavily featuring the former. Basically, Kojima does whatever he wants and that makes a Metal Gear Solid game exciting. More great examples of this can be found in MGS4, with several huge shocks from characters like Eva (as Big Mama) helping to tie up loose ends from across the franchise. The Phantom Pain is set during a previously unexplored period of time within the Metal Gear universe, yet some major events take place in the 1980s - yet fans haven't actually seen them unfold for themselves. Fleshing out these seemingly small details and events would help build the plot and expand the story of Metal Gear nicely while also making The Phantom Pain a vital part of the series. So who can fans expect to turn up? Big Boss is already confirmed to form an unlikely partnership with an ageing Ocelot, but that isn't necessarily the only surprise up Kojima's sleeve. If you can think of any more characters who might pop up in The Phantom Pain, let us know in the comments below.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
