Pokémon Is Finally Coming To Nintendo Switch...

...but not how you'd like.

Pokken Tournament DX
Nintendo

Amidst a slew of rumours, potential leaks and fan fervour, Nintendo held a livestream on June 6th to announce and clarify what was next for the Pokémon brand. Would it be confirmation of the somewhat mythical Pokémon Stars, the first home console 'proper Pokémon experience' we've fantasised about since the Switch's first unveiling?

Oh, hell no.

Instead, Nintendo are bringing a visually touched-up and more feature-complete edition of Pokkén Tournament, called 'Pokkén Tournament DX'. It'll be a re-release of the 2015 original, complete with all DLC, a new 3v3 mode, online ranked modes, LAN matches and five new Pokémon (Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk and Decidueye).

The announcement comes after Pokémon Stars was 'leaked', only to amount to nothing more than a Photoshop job, yet the notion of Pokémon Stars being a Sun & Moon remake with home console graphics has now also been quashed. Instead, Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon is coming to 3DS, somewhat confirming that Nintendo perhaps don't have any Poké-related news up their sleeve for E3.

Time will of course tell whether Pokkén Tournament finds more of a home on a system that sold to more than a handful of consumers, but for all of us hoping this was finally the time Nintendo would announce a home console Pokémon... we'll have to keep dreaming.
