I urge you to take this with a pinch of salt. And even if you don't, be aware that in the grand scheme of things, this doesn't mean much.
VG247 are reporting that a source has told them at CES that the PS4 is going to be capable of 1.84 Terraflops while the Xbox will only be able to push 1.23. Fo those of you good at maths, that is around a 50% advantage to the PS3 in terms fo power. However, their sources allegedly told them that the new Xbox will have 8GB of RAM with 4-5GB reserved for gaming, while the PS4 will have a measly 4GB with 3GB for gaming. First of all, let me go out on a limb here and say I have my doubts about this rumour. First of all, if VG247 were confident this news was true, they would have posted it up straight away. I don't see why they would wait 4 days after CES finished to report this news. Secondly, if you look at some of the terminology in the original report, it is clear that even they have some reservations over the news stating the news as "rumour" in the first few words. But lets go along with this for a second. Even if it is true what does it mean? Well... precisely nothing really. This is no different to the current generation of games consoles. The PS3 theoretically has 230.4 Gigaflops, while the Xbox 360 can supposedly only reach a measly 115.2 GFLOP. That is an even bigger gap than what is being reported now. But games often look identical (And if the new DmC is anything to go by, sometimes better) and sales have proved that a consoles power really has little to no baring over which console ends up selling more or being subjectively 'better'. So cool your keyboards fanboys. Nothing is official yet.
