Ranking October 2016's Video Games From Worst To Best

Is that you, Game of the Year list?

It's not until you take a look back at October and compare it to the rest of 2016 that it hits you, but man what a month we've had.

We saw the advent of PS VR attempt to bring virtual reality to the mainstream for an affordable price (though I'll let you decide in the comments whether you feel it's worked) and from Gears of War to Battlefield 1, we've had recent instalments in some of gaming's most prolific franchises.

It's a rarity, but for once our usual 'worst to best' barely contains barely any of the former. Even October's biggest 'missteps' are still promising titles brimming with potential going forward, and that's before you get to the really good stuff.

Let me know which of the following you picked up, how you'd rank them, and if there are any I missed. Seriously, a ton of this list will actually form the basis of Game of the Year 2016...

13. Batman: Arkham VR

Batman Arkham VR
Rocksteady

A standout favourite from the PS VR launch lineup, Rocksteady's latest succeeds in letting you do everything from share a physical space with Alfred, to exploring the Batcave and flinging a few Batarangs at the Dark Knight's T-Rex.

Where it stumbles is in longevity and lasting appeal, as Batman: Arkham VR is more a fairground ride than a fully-fledged game with loops to get lost in.

Clocking in at about an hour on your first playthrough, the story is an intentionally mind-boggling continuation of where Arkham Knight left off. Personally I found its ending to be more of a slap in the face than anything rewarding, but there's no denying the appeal of looking in a mirror and seeing Batman himself staring back.
