July 26th, 2012. It was the date on the calendar that many eager PS3 fans had circled with red permanent ink.

30 days has expired since Microsoft’s one month exclusivity deal with Bethesda for the rights to Dawnguard – the long awaited expansion pack to best selling RPG game Skyrim. So, off to the PlayStation Store to download and… Wait a minute… What the hell?

Where is it?

That’s the feeling of frustration many PS3 gamers will have endured yesterday. Indeed, Dawnguard is behind schedule, and according to a Tweet from Bethesda, Update 1.7 – the patch required to prepare Skyrim for the expansion pack  - won’t even be released for another couple of weeks, meaning we shouldn’t realistically expect Dawnguard to hit the PS3 until August 9th at the earliest.

Dawnguard, already released on the Xbox 360, centres around the return of a vampire lord who wishes to destroy the sun. Hoping to use the power of the ancient Elderscroll to achieve this wicket feat, it eventually falls upon the Dragonborn to either join his ruthless army of the undead, or join the Dawnguard, the faction created to stop them.

Introducing an array of new gameplay elements, such as new dragon behavior, the ability to fly for short periods, and new skill trees, Dawnguard looked set to give those of us who have already invested hundreds of hours completing the 200+ quests (not to mention the miscs),  clearing the 300+ Dungeons and spending well earned perks on making our character as powerful as possible something else to do.

Unfortunately, it appears we may have to wait just that little bit longer before deciding whether to join the vampire lords or destroy them.

Unless you’re an Xbox user. In which case, no gloating, please.
