Sonic Mania: 11 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

11. The Daytona Voiceover & Hornet High Class Car

Confusing to anyone who doesn't remember being in arcade circa 1993/4, Sonic Mania - in a phenomenal turn - actually includes various references to Daytona USA i.e. The finest racing game SEGA have ever released.

First up is the iconic "Daaaaytona" voice returning to count "3, 2, 1" in Mania's unlockable head-to-head multiplayer, and second appears across the Studiopolis Zone.

Very easy to miss if your memory of 20+ years ago isn't the strongest, the various vans that beam you around the level are adorned with "High-Class" and "Hornet" written on their back and side.

This is a direct reference to the iconic Daytona car, somewhat replicating its colour scheme and returning the initial callback from way back when, where Daytona included a Sonic etching into one of its background cliffs.
