Sony Say Late PlayStation 4 Console Launch Would Be 'Undesirable'

Sony have revealed that it's essential they aren't late with the launch of their next generation console.

Sony have revealed that it's essential they aren't late with the launch of their next generation console 'PlayStation 4'. As we have reported several times the Nintendo Wii U is due to launch in 2012 and there are rumours almost daily that Microsoft are getting ever closer to announcing their next Xbox console, possibly titled 720 or Xbox 'Loop'. Sony, who haven't yet set a date on the PlayStation 4, will be well aware that the Xbox 360 beat out their console by a whole year to the market place last time out and they don't want that to happen again. PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan said at the Vita press event in London this week that;
"I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition" but that.. "There's still a lot of unfinished business on PS3."
So although their strategy is definitely now turning to the PlayStation 4, they haven't forgotten PS3 gamers just yet...
"If you look at PlayStation 2, now in excess of 150m units installed globally, a huge majority of that was done at lower price points. There's a considerable untapped part of the market there for PS3."
At this stage a PlayStation 4 looks impossible for 2012 and perhaps even 2013....
