The Golden Joysticks Awards – The Likely Winners and the Dark Horses

Best Action/Adventure

The Contenders €“ Assassin€™s Creed: Revelations, Asura€™s Wrath, Batman: Arkham City, Darksiders II, Dead Island, Prototype 2, Saints Row the Third, Sleeping Dogs, Sonic Generations, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3. The Likely €“ Batman: Arkham City The Dark Horses €“ Assassin€™s Creed, Uncharted 3 The Verdict - I will have to shamefully admit that I have not played Arkham City. But if Arkham Asylum was anything to go off, and if the critics are to be believed, it is definitely the forerunner for this broad category. Uncharted has been the flagship for PS3 exclusive titles for a while, though as with most it has been forced into producing more flashy content to appeal to the gimmicky side of its playerbase, and has lost some of the key mechanics of stealth and treasure nabbing that made the original so successful. It has a chance, but not a big one. Going into Assassin€™s Creed: Revelations, the general thought was €œEzio€™s story is washed up.€ Indeed, Assassin€™s Creed 2.5 €“ better known as Brotherhood €“ was an unnecessary addition to the story that exited solely to market their multiplayer features €“ which to be fair were a lot of fun. Revelations, aside from the over-used title, was a moving, enjoyable gameplay experience, and having spent so long with Ezio it was quite hard to let him go. You cannot fault Ubisoft Montreal for hard work when it comes to Assassin€™s Creed €“ they listened to feedback from the first game, and went to a lot of effort to add fresh things without being gimmicky. It€™s my pick, but I doubt it will win.
