While this post may initially appeal to fans of THQ’s institutional WWE video game series, the actual meat of the news has much greater and wider reaching implications.
According to GameRanx, recently at a WWE 13 press event in L.A, Yukes Senior Producer Arnaud Fray gave an interview for the French site JeuxVideo, and admitted that THQ and Yukes are currently working on a next-gen WWE game.
Admittedly, this isn’t the most surprising news, given the fact that the THQ WWE games have been coming out once a year; when there is a generational shift, a WWE presence on there is given. The meaty news though is that, in the same interview, Frey revealed that the next-gen consoles are due to be announced by Sony and Microsoft at the next E3 games expo.
Frey also revealed that the first WWE title for the next gen is due in two years’ time, making it entirely possible that the next title after WWE 13 will be on a whole new generation of consoles. Joy!
The interview is in French and hosted at JeuxVideo, but it’s fortunately also been translated for reading at the NeoGaf forums.
It looks as though we’ll all be rejoicing (or potentially recoiling in horror at lofty price-tags) as early as next year; that the announcement of an entirely new generation of hardware is imminent. Make no mistake, this is huge news people. The next E3 takes place in June next year, meaning we’re just 9 months away from the next stage in gaming. Belter!
