Last month on both Xbox Live and PSN, a demo was released for the upcoming sequel to High Moon Studio’s greatest game, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. With it came two missions, one Autobot and one Decepticon, as well as the return of the multiplayer match making with 1 multiplayer map.
High Moon Studios has been in development for some time on FoC and after seeing bits and pieces over the year at events like E3 and Comic Con, it’s nice to finally get our feet wet with what looks to be the best Transformers game so far.
After playing the demo a few times and playing the multiplayer for a few hours (ok, all night) I have come up with a few reasons why Fall of Cybertron is a must buy on day one.
At the end of War for Cybertron, it was clear that Optimus Prime believed that leaving Cybertron was the only hope the Autobots had of surviving. The game starts off at the end of the game with the Autobots on the Ark, the last Autobot ship, heading towards a portal leaving Cybertron behind. Shortly after, the Ark comes under attack from a Decepticon warship, which is where the game begins. If anyone is familiar with the original G1 series, this beginning will bring back some memories.
Unlike War For Cybertron, FoC has an intertwined story that jumps from character to character instead of having two separate story arcs for the Autobot and Decepticons. With the story being woven together instead of separate it will give the viewers a much better understanding of how both sides are reacting to the same situation. Instead of seeing one side then the other, this will allow for a much more fluent string of events that ultimately end with the exile of the transformers.
One of the greatest elements of WoC was its storytelling. Events such as Starscreams betrayal, to Optimus’ rise to Prime and the construction of the Ark all set the stage for FoC. With all of those pieces in place we finally get to see how the final days on Cybertron were and what hardships occurred before the Transformers came to earth.
Also, doesn’t anybody want to know how Bumbleebee actually lost his voice? Or how the Dinobots were created?
