Ubisoft made it official today, they are developing Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth for the Xbox 360 Kinect and Wii U. There is no mention if the game will make its way to the PS3.
Tony Key, Ubisoft’s vice president of sales and marketing had this to say:
“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past, This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.”
The game is not based on the movie supposedly but instead based on the “Secret Invasion” comic series and will have over twenty different characters in the game. There is no release date as of yet but Key did say that the game will likely launch after the release of the Wii U.
Outside of fighting games like “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3”, games based on Marvel characters have generally bombed. The Iron Man games and Thor game were basically unmitigated disasters and at this point putting this game on the Kinect and Wii U sounds to me like this will be a very “kid friendly” game.
Not that that is bad thing, but I won’t be expecting Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth to have the same quality as Batman: Arkham City or probably even some of the Spider-man games released by Activision.

Wow, fail. Sticking to 2000 on, off the top of my head:
Ultimate Alliance
Ultimate Alliance 2
X-Men Legends
X-Men Legends 2
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Punisher
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Plus, I find the MvC series mindless and dull…but that’s just me ;-)
Your right I apologize I should have said some of the more recent Marvel games have been less than stellar. Unfortunately I can’t think of too many Marvel games that have released recently that I have enjoyed. Most of the games you listed released two or more years ago and I haven’t been a huge fan of some of the more recently released spider man games.
Part of the reason for that is I believe spider man games should be some of the best games released period. Outside of Batman, Spider Man video games should be the pinnacle of comic book video games. I mean he has one of if not the best rouges gallery and web slinging around a giant city should be an easy combination to make into AAA video games.
But Activision wants to release a Spider Man video game every year so the quality dips in my opinion. Sorry for the rant but it frustrates me that my second favorite comic book character should be getting the highest quality treatment; and Activision tends to skimp on the polish in favor of pushing a yearly version of the game out.
Again sorry about that I should have been a little more specific in listing some of the Marvel games that have bombed and not generalized as much as I did.
